Juniper Networks & OptiComm to grow AU network infrastructure
Tue, 11th Jun 2019
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Australian fibre and wholesale service provider OptiComm will work with Juniper networks in order to double the size of OptiComm's network infrastructure across the country.

OptiComm has been steering growth through partnerships with property developers in order to fit buildings with fibre-optic cables.

As a privately-owned builder and operator of FTTP networks for new developments, OptiComm has been rapidly expanding its footprint in Australia. With developments across Australia booming to meet population growth

However, as population growth spreads, it puts stress on network congestion, with additional stress on latency and security.

OptiComm recognised the need to upgrade its traditional network infrastructure to address long-term growth while offering investment-protecting evolution to emerging technologies such as mobility, Internet of Things (IoT) and connected vehicles, all without being left vulnerable to cyber threats.

Juniper Networks will offer its software-defined networking (SDN)-enabled MX480 5G Universal Routing Platform in order to help OptiComm manage growth.

Following an extensive evaluation process, OptiComm selected Juniper Networks to replace its entire core network.

As part of OptiComm's journey toward delivering advanced business and residential applications and services, Juniper Networks will supply SDN-enabled MX480 5G Universal Routing Platform systems packed with highly scalable routing, switching, security and service features that enable revenue-generating applications.

The MX480 will provide the needed programmability, performance, reliability and scalability for rapid service deployment now and for years to come.

“Together with expanding our core network infrastructure across Australia and our customers' ambitious growth plans, we found that our current networking infrastructure needed to be upgraded to facilitate ‘Smart Cities' and 1Gbps services,” explains OptiComm chief technology officer Stephen Davies.

“What we needed was a partner that could support us in our journey toward doubling OptiComm's core network, while also providing state-of-the-art speed and security. Juniper Networks has a strong reputation for building simple and reliable networks, so they were a natural fit.

Juniper Networks Asia Pacific senior vice president and general manager Ralph Candiloro adds, “We are proud to be partnering with an Australian telecommunications carrier that is expanding quickly and leading the pack in connecting Australians to critical internet, telephone and television services.”

“At Juniper Networks, we have a shared vision of connecting Australians and businesses quickly, seamlessly and securely, and we're excited to be enabling new and exciting use cases for OptiComm and its customers.

OptiComm will also utilise Juniper Networks' MX240 5G Universal Routing Platform, ACX Series Universal Access Router, QFX Series Data Center Switches, SRX Series Next-Generation Firewalls and EX Series Ethernet Switches for added security and ease-of-management.
