Tesserent Academy, a premier Australian cybersecurity education institution, has announced a unique pilot partnership with Toorak College to provide female students with a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals. The initiative, which will commence in the first and second terms and include a series of specialised sessions for all 100 Year 10 female students, is fully subsidised by Tesserent Academy.
Kristy Kendall, Principal of Toorak College, affirmed the school's commitment to equipping students with the skills needed in an ever-evolving world. Kurt Hansen, CEO of Tesserent, expressed the company's desire to inspire more young girls to pursue a career in cybersecurity through education with Tesserent Academy. According to Hansen, there is a desperate need for more cybersecurity talent to meet current and future demand. The collaboration thus also aims to foster inclusiveness and build a future pool of female talent in this critical industry.
The partnership with Toorak College will include five 45-minute sessions for all 100 female year ten students. These sessions will cover critical areas such as cybersecurity awareness training, understanding the cybersecurity landscape, data privacy, and standards and controls.
Kurt Hansen explained, "This will help the Year 10 girls learn how to be cyber-aware citizens, how cybercriminals target people, and the evolving tactics they are using. It will also empower them with advanced skills to protect their privacy online and what they can do to minimise the risk of their personal accounts and data being compromised."
In the second term of the programme, 20 selected students will participate in practical exercises and get a tour of Tesserent's Security Operations Centre. Here, they will delve into security operations, including threat landscape, threat intelligence, cloud computing, network security, endpoint security, physical security, and incident response. They will all round off this immersive engagement with a special careers session facilitated by some of Tesserent's team of over 550 leading cybersecurity experts.
