Abnormal AI named a leader again in 2025 Gartner email security

Fri, 5th Dec 2025

Abnormal AI has been named a Leader in the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for Email Security, marking its second consecutive year in this prominent position. The company also retained the furthest placement on the vision axis among the 14 vendors assessed.

Evaluation criteria

Gartner's assessment focuses on completeness of vision and ability to execute. Abnormal AI was recognised for its AI-driven approach to security, with specific strengths noted in behavioural analysis and the use of natural language processing to assess threats.

The report underlined the rise in sophisticated social engineering attacks targeting email. According to Gartner, the complexity and prevalence of these threats means many organisations are employing multiple vendors to achieve comprehensive protection.

Platform capabilities

The Abnormal platform applies identity, behavioural and contextual signals to establish a baseline for normal activity. This assists in identifying unusual behaviour that could indicate malicious activity. Its deployment relies on API integration, which is designed to avoid major changes to existing mail routing processes and to simplify set-up for customers.

The platform is designed to defend against a range of email threats including business email compromise, phishing, and account takeover attempts. Recent developments include the release of autonomous AI agents such as AI Phishing Coach and AI Data Analyst, which support the detection, response, and mitigation of threats in real time.

Compliance and reach

Abnormal achieved FedRAMP Moderate Authorisation and the ISO/IEC 42001 AI governance certification in 2025. Both are regarded as significant in terms of security assurance and responsible AI practices. During the year, the company expanded geographically by entering new markets in Germany, Japan and France. According to the company, it now secures more than 25% of the Fortune 500.

Industry recognition

Abnormal received further validation through appearances on industry lists such as the CNBC Disruptor 50, Forbes Cloud 100, and the Fortune Cyber 60. In July 2025, it was designated a Gartner Peer Insights Customers' Choice for Email Security Platforms. The platform received a 99% "Would Recommend" rating from the survey's participating customers.

Leadership outlook

"Being named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for the second year in a row-while maintaining the furthest placement on Vision-is an incredible milestone for us," said Evan Reiser, chief executive officer, Abnormal AI. "We're proud to see our AI-native approach continuing to drive innovation and impact as we build toward a future where understanding human behavior is the cornerstone of keeping people and organizations safe."
