Barracuda unveils AI assistant to boost security team efficiency

Fri, 7th Nov 2025

Barracuda Networks has introduced Barracuda Assistant, an artificial intelligence-powered virtual agent designed to enhance the efficiency of security operations. The tool is aimed at supporting organisations and managed service providers (MSPs) as they contend with more frequent and sophisticated cyberattacks.

Security pressure

The increased complexity and volume of cyber threats have placed significant strain on security teams, particularly as resources remain tight. Barracuda Assistant is intended to address these challenges by providing users with quicker access to vital security information, enabling faster threat investigations and reducing the risk of errors.

"Cyberattacks are growing more sophisticated and relentless, and security teams are under immense pressure to respond faster with fewer resources," said Brian Downey, Vice President of Product Management, Barracuda.

"Barracuda Assistant empowers users of all skill levels to investigate threats quickly and confidently, even in the face of complex attacks. We're helping organisations close critical skills gaps, reduce human error and simplify security workflows that have traditionally been time-consuming and fragmented. This innovation gives businesses the tools they need to strengthen resilience, accelerate response and stay ahead of an ever-evolving threat landscape."

Operational efficiency

The assistant is integrated with the BarracudaONE cybersecurity platform and can be accessed via a single, unified interface. It streamlines tasks such as vulnerability assessments, incident reviews, and accessing actionable insights, which the company says may reduce the disruption caused by context switching between different security tools and tasks. This is intended to free up security staff to focus on more strategic activities.

Dave Gruber, Principal Analyst for Omdia, highlighted the sector-wide impact of such digital assistants, stating, "The use of generative AI and digital assistants in security operations is delivering measurable improvements across many SecOps functions, including threat investigation and response, threat hunting, operationalising threat intelligence, and more. These improvements are translating into increases in both efficacy and efficiency, while freeing up analyst time to focus on more strategic security activities."

Real-time intelligence

Barracuda Assistant uses real-time data from the company's global threat intelligence network. This enables the tool to provide recommendations and alerts that reflect the latest threat vectors and attack techniques. The virtual agent is positioned to help organisations adapt to new adversary tactics and maintain a proactive security posture.

The assistant also delivers specific guidance, ranging from deployment metrics to best practice recommendations, with the aim of helping even less experienced security staff act decisively in response to incidents.

User perspective

Colin Petty, IT Director at Gridworks, described the impact of the assistant on his team's operations: "Barracuda Assistant delivers immediate, actionable guidance, practical use cases and direct links to helpful how-to resources - so even junior staff can move from questions to action quickly and with measurable impact. It's the latest example of how Barracuda continues to innovate its user-friendly BarracudaONE platform to empower IT and security teams to act decisively and with confidence."

Jon Le Roi, IT Director at The Mendocino Family of Companies, emphasised the potential value of the new tool, saying, "Barracuda Assistant is like having a seasoned security professional on demand, delivering confidence and speed when every second counts. With real-time, actionable insights and clear direction, Barracuda Assistant empowers our team to work smarter, respond faster and maintain a proactive, resilient security posture."
