Hong Kong’s broadband just got faster

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Huawei has deployed its dual carrier HSPA+ solution for Hong Kong telecommunications provider, PCCW.

The deployment of 42Mb/s HSPA+ dual carrier technology is said to be a straightforward upgrade of PCCW's current HSPA+ network, which doubles its current downlink peak rate of 21Mb/s.

Wan Biao, President of Wireless, Huawei, said, "With the launch of this enhanced HSPA+ network with dual carrier technology, leading operators like PCCW will be able to handle even larger volumes of data traffic. By incorporating Huawei's endto- end HSPA+ solution, PCCW's enhanced HSPA+ network is set to give its mobile broadband customers a greatly enhanced user experience."

Huawei says that the launch sees PCCW successfully commercialise dual carrier technology on its HSPA+ network to achieve peak download speeds of up to 42Mb/s.

Dual carrier technology is based on the principle of simultaneously employing two carrier channels, which allows an effective maximum theoretical throughput of 42Mb/s.

Telecom recently flicked the 'on' switch for its own HSPA+ network.
