HONOR launches in Australia with flagship phones & AI focus
HONOR has officially entered the Australian smartphone market, offering two flagship devices, the Magic V5 and the 400 Pro, as part of a broader ecosystem launch. The company also introduced the HONOR Pad 10 tablet, Watch 4 smartwatch, and CHOICE Earbuds Clip, aiming to establish a firm presence in a competitive sector.
Flagship foldable
The Magic V5 draws attention with its 8.8mm profile, positioning itself as the thinnest book-style foldable smartphone available. It includes a 5820mAh silicon-carbon battery and is equipped with a 16GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration. Display specifications feature a 7.95-inch internal and a 6.43-inch external screen, both supporting stylus input.
The camera array comprises a 64MP periscope telephoto lens, alongside 50MP main and ultra-wide sensors. The phone introduces users to advanced AI imaging features through the HONOR Image Engine, complementing the photography hardware.
Running MagicOS 10 and integrating Google's Gemini AI assistant, the foldable aims to enhance productivity with tools such as Multi-Flex Mode for multitasking and stylus compatibility for note-taking and creative tasks.
AI on-device
The HONOR 400 Pro emphasises accessible artificial intelligence, offering features that allow users to create video clips and edit photos directly on the device. Core tools include HD Moving Photo, AI Erase Passers-by, and AI Remove Reflection. The focus on on-device capabilities allows editing tasks to be completed without reliance on third-party software or cloud processing.
The device runs on MagicOS 9.0 with Google Gemini embedded, and features a 5300mAh silicon-carbon battery designed to maintain over 80% health after four years. Storage is set at 512GB. HONOR reports up to 33 hours of voice calls and 15 hours of online entertainment per charge.
Additional AI functions span translation, summary, and voice recording, all processed locally through the device's capabilities.
Ecosystem approach
HONOR's launch is backed by a USD $10 billion commitment to research and development over the next five years, with a focus on artificial intelligence, platform development, and open ecosystem initiatives. The company aims to transition from traditional smartphone manufacturing towards a broader AI device and services portfolio.
The complementary product launches include the Pad 10 tablet for productivity and entertainment, the Watch 4 for health and connectivity use-cases, and wireless earbuds under the CHOICE brand.
