IGEL enhances Microsoft integrations with new support features

Tue, 16th Jul 2024

IGEL has announced the enhancement of its collaborative efforts with Microsoft, introducing new integrations and improvements designed to support enterprises that rely on Windows. This development includes IGEL OS support for Windows 365 Frontline, new features for Microsoft Intune, and native support for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI.

The new releases are part of IGEL's ongoing commitment to innovation and development. The company aims to simplify and secure the computing environment for enterprises heavily invested in Windows.

IGEL has extended its OS to support multi-user connections to Windows 365 Cloud PCs. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for task workers in healthcare, shift workers, and other frontline employees. These workers can now connect their Cloud PCs directly from IGEL OS to Windows 365 Frontline, enabling them to work productively from various locations without the limitations associated with shared physical devices.

Additionally, IGEL has rolled out enhanced support for Microsoft Intune. A new Intune application allows IT administrators to view and manage IGEL-powered devices from within Intune. Enterprises employing Microsoft Entra ID Conditional Access can achieve improved policy control and security when using IGEL OS on endpoints managed by Intune, ensuring a more secure and compliant endpoint environment.

Further enrichment comes in the form of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) support for Azure Stack HCI. IGEL OS clients now operate directly with AVD for Azure Stack HCI, offering a cost-effective virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution for organisations seeking the benefits of Azure Virtual Desktop on on-premises hyper-converged infrastructure hardware.

Commenting on these developments, Klaus Oestermann, CEO of IGEL, stated, "IGEL is continuing its ongoing, strategic Microsoft relationship by prioritising the collaborative innovations our joint customers need to accelerate end user productivity while enhancing enterprise security and efficiency. By deepening our support across the Microsoft portfolio, we are underscoring the value of IGEL in the Windows-driven enterprise and accentuating the value of our combined solution for the future of end user computing."

Scott Manchester, Vice President of Product for Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 at Microsoft, echoed these sentiments. "IGEL and Microsoft are mutually committed to delivering a seamless and secure user experience for today's hybrid digital workforce. IGEL's support for Windows 365 Frontline, Azure Virtual Desktop for Azure Stack HCI and Microsoft Intune will help us deliver additional value to a broad range of customers in a wide variety of industries," he remarked.

The announcement follows ongoing efforts to bolster IGEL's integration with Microsoft technologies and will be a focal point at the upcoming IGEL DISRUPT 24 event in Munich, Germany. The event, scheduled for mid-September, will feature a half-day technical bootcamp hosted by Microsoft. This bootcamp will include hands-on training, real-world simulations, and detailed discussions on Azure Virtual Desktop, the differentiators of Windows 365, and best practices for application delivery and security within the Microsoft ecosystem.
