NEC X has begun accepting applications for the fifteenth cohort of its Elev X! Ignite programme, offering early-stage founders an opportunity to develop seed-ready startups with access to expert mentorship, research and development support, and up to USD $250,000 in equity funding.
Hands-on AI access
The new cohort introduces a feature which allows selected founders to explore NEC's artificial intelligence technologies during the initial phase of the programme. This access enables founders to gain practical experience with NEC's proprietary AI systems, with the aim of sparking new application ideas for their own ventures.
Phase 1 participants will be able to interact directly with NEC's advanced AI capabilities using dedicated application programming interfaces (APIs). This is in response to a strong trend observed in previous applications, where nearly all startups proposed AI-led solutions.
Accelerator structure
Elev X! Ignite runs over one year and is aimed at founders developing business-to-business software-as-a-service products that integrate AI. Participants work with NEC X's team of engineers, researchers, business coaches, and advisors, who assist with product development, market validation, and readiness for seed-stage investment.
The programme's structure is designed to move participants from the initial validation of ideas through to market preparation and investor engagement. Startups selected for Phase 1 will have their concepts rigorously tested, with ongoing support to prepare for subsequent stages of development and funding.
Application focus
The programme focuses on founders building technology that improves business processes, supports better decision-making, or increases operational efficiency. There is also an emphasis on solutions that deliver measurable social impact, particularly where these align with NEC's business interests.
Previous participants in NEC X's venture studio include firms such as Beagle Technology, Multitude Insights, Metabob, Flyhound, Chekable, Qualitative Intelligence, Metapyxl, Verdi, and Indicio. The venture studio has supported more than 180 startups since its inception.
Supporting founders
"Founders today don't just want funding; they want to experiment with cutting-edge technology and turn bold ideas into real-world solutions. Elev X! Ignite gives them that opportunity. By providing hands-on access to NEC's AI technologies and pairing founders with dedicated venture support, we help them test concepts, build impactful solutions and get seed-ready faster than ever," said Shintaro Matsumoto, President and CEO, NEC X.
