Nozomi Networks, Siemens reveal software integration

Nozomi Networks and Siemens have extended their partnership by embedding Nozomi Networks’ software into the Siemens Scalance LPE local processing engine.

Nozomi Networks’ Guardian Remote Collector software is a hardware platform designed to process edge and cloud application data in manufacturing environments.

Integrating this OT and IoT continuous monitoring software with Siemens’ Scalance LPE hardware means customers will be able to easily use it in their industrial networks.

“This is a significant milestone for the Siemens partnership with Nozomi Networks,” ARC Advisory Group cybersecurity advisory services vice president Sid Snitkin says.

“Embedding Nozomi Networks solutions into Siemens Scalance LPE eliminates integration cycles and gives users an efficient and reliable solution with cybersecurity capabilities baked in.”

The Scalance LPE hosts Guardian Remote Collector’s new Docker containerised version to incorporate local data collection, pre-processing and analytics in operational technology deployments.

In addition, this version offers an effective way of distributing processing power across large manufacturing operations and allows any centralised application, including Nozomi Networks Vantage cloud-hosted security platform, to more efficiently analyse and aggregate data.

The offering also seamlessly provides highly scalable continuous monitoring and intrusion detection to the network edge through the Scalance LPE.

Data is forwarded from the edge to the Nozomi Networks Remote Collector hosted on the Scalance LPE to monitor and analyse industrial network protocols, including PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and EtherCat, for anomalies and potential threats.

“This is the first distributed cybersecurity data collection and analysis software embedded in the Scalance LPE platform and is a vital part of our defence-in-depth concept for OT cybersecurity,” Siemens Scalance business development lead Maximilian Korff says.

“This integration offers our customers a non-intrusive and powerful solution to detect threats in real-time and gain deeper visibility of their OT network.”

The companies note that what is unique about this integration is that using the Siemens reference network architectures even collects traffic from parallel PROFIsafe production cells.

Nozomi Networks analyses data from the industrial process or global enterprise to offer insights and actionable intelligence to address security threats and help efforts to respond and remediate these issues happen more quickly.

The Scalance LPE supports large-scale factory automation by distributing local processing capabilities at the edge, which the companies say makes it ideal for Nozomi Networks due to its position in the industry as a highly scalable OT cybersecurity offering.

“Supporting the Scalance LPE with a docker container version of our Remote Collector will streamline deployment options for our customers and follows on our existing support for the Siemens Ruggedcom APE platform,” Nozomi Networks business development vice president Chet Namboodri says.

“Siemens helps customers get the most out of the Nozomi Networks platform at any scale for these critical manufacturing and industrial control customers.”

The Nozomi Networks integration with Siemens hardware is available now.
