IT developers, designers, Queensland's public safety agencies and creative thinkers from all over Australia recently took part in a 48-hour hackathon.

The event was held in in association with Telstra and Amazon Web Services, and organized by Motorla Solutions.

Presentations and solutions were judged based on technical accomplishment and design, innovation and creativity, impact and readiness.

The overall purpose of the hackathon was to develop public safety-based mobile applications to solve real world operational challenges faced by public safety agencies.

Western Australian start-up Fleetsu took out the top prize, worth AUD$45,000 in cash.

Developer presentations were judged by a panel led by Mr Jamie Merrick, director general of Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation, Queensland.

It also featured Steve Crutchfield, managing director ANZ, Motorola Solutions; Jon O'Brien, state manager, Telstra; and Paul Migliorini, managing director ANZ, Amazon Web Services.

The hackathon took place at the Novotel in Brisbane. Final presentations were made on Friday when the winner was announced.
