Rubrik unveils AI tools to boost recovery for Microsoft 365 & DevOps

Rubrik has introduced two new AI-powered offerings designed to improve recovery processes for Microsoft 365 environments and secure DevOps operations on Azure DevOps and GitHub. These solutions aim to reduce downtime after cyberattacks or outages and help organisations maintain operational resilience by prioritising and restoring critical data and workflows.

Microsoft 365 recovery

Many organisations experience significant disruption when restoring operations follows an outage or security incident. Traditional recovery methods often focus solely on data or applications, overlooking the wider business context. This can result in prolonged downtime and risk to vital business functions.

Rubrik's new Intelligent Business Recovery for Microsoft 365 introduces an automated approach that recognises critical users such as executives and department heads. It analyses protected Microsoft 365 data, including emails, SharePoint sites, files, and Teams chats. The system identifies which workflows and data are essential for maintaining business operations and orchestrates restoration accordingly.

This process allows for the immediate return of a minimum set of users and data-referred to as the minimum viable business-enabling critical teams to function while full system recovery completes in the background. The company indicates that this method can minimise both business risk and downtime, compared to conventional data-centric recoveries.

DevOps security

With the rise of DevOps, many technology teams store key intellectual property, including source code and automation pipelines, on platforms such as Azure DevOps and GitHub. Security incidents targeting these repositories can cause material disruption and loss.

Rubrik's DevOps Protection aims to secure these environments against threats like ransomware and accidental or malicious code changes. The solution applies a unified, policy-driven approach to safeguarding Azure DevOps and GitHub assets, providing logically separated, immutable backups. This air-gapped storage is resistant to unauthorised alteration or deletion, even in the event of a breach targeting production systems.

The system offers flexible recovery options, allowing organisations to restore individual repositories or pipelines as needed. It also features security controls such as Retention Lock, Quorum Authorization, and Role-Based Access Control, aiming to align recovery protection with enterprise security standards.

Accelerated restoration

Rubrik's latest offerings are positioned as a response to recent high-profile incidents that have demonstrated gaps in backup and recovery for both business productivity suites and software development tools. The company notes the increasing threat surface created by AI and automated agents in DevOps, which can introduce new vulnerabilities at scale.
