SAM & Gemalto team up for IP protection, lead way for device vendors

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Snell Advanced Media (SAM) has teamed with Gemalto to protect its intellectual property that surrounds its xFile software fleet.

The partnership aims to not only protect IP, but also apply software-based licensing to improve audit reporting, renewal reporting, product activation and IP theft for SAM's production and editing platforms for broadcast industries.

"SAM's transformation is indicative of what we are seeing in the device vendors market. To stay ahead of the curve in the relevant industry, vendors need to be forward-thinking to realise the value of a software-driven business model and the potential such a transformation could have on pricing and packaging models," says Jamie Longmuir, Gemalto regional director.

SAM states that Gemalto's Sentinel RMS platform will also enable the company to find new ways to sell and package their products.

"Operating in the dynamic media and broadcasting space means we are dealing with an increasingly digital-savvy client base, and offering that extra security and ease-of-deployment for our software packages is what makes all the difference," says Jeremy Courtney, head of media processing software at SAM.

"The collaboration between Gemalto and SAM reflects the importance that software licensing and entitlement is having on a business that is looking to grow and secure its competitive advantage," Longmuir concludes.
