UFB draft released to the public

FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Telecommunications Carriers’ Forum has released a proposed draft of standards for the government’s ultra fast broadband proposal.

TCF Chief Executive, David Stone (pictured), says that the draft is a major milestone in building a future-proofed network for New Zealand.

“This is an important step for both the UFB process and for the industry as a whole,” he said. “We’ve come together to work on the detail that will provide the framework needed to deliver on this mammoth project.”

Stone says the standards provide a clear direction on how the UFB will operate.

“There’s a tremendous amount at stake here, not just in terms of cost but also in a broader economic sense. New Zealand can’t lag behind the rest of the world in the move to this kind of capability and the TCF is determined that we, as an industry, play our part constructively and openly.”

The TCF is asking for public feedback on its proposal and will be holding workshops in Auckland and Wellington in conjunction with Crown Fibre Holdings, the government agency leading the UFB initiative.
