AC Milan enhances performance & fan experience with AI

Yesterday

AC Milan has announced the implementation of Pure Storage's data storage platform to enhance team performance through AI applications and improve fan experiences.

The Club, known for its historical significance in the world of football, is utilising Pure Storage to achieve two primary goals: enriching fan engagement through digital content and leveraging data and AI for improved club performance.

Central to this initiative is AC Milan's Media House, which produces video and social content. Over the past three years, the Media House has seen an increase in employees and output, leading to a significant rise in unstructured data. The previous legacy data storage system struggled to cope, creating obstacles to achieving the desired progress.

The partnership with Pure Storage has provided AC Milan with a powerful and efficient storage infrastructure, enhancing the Club's technology transformation efforts. The Pure Storage Platform allows for fast and reliable management of large data volumes across multiple sites, significantly boosting productivity. This improvement has resulted in the Media House team achieving 10 times faster content production and delivery, aiding the Club in reaching over 500 million global fans.

In addition to productivity gains, AC Milan has also bolstered its data security measures through Pure Storage. The Club utilises ActiveDRTM to achieve near-zero Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) metrics. Furthermore, Pure Storage SafeModeTM Snapshots safeguard data by making it undeletable and unmodifiable in the event of a ransomware attack.

AC Milan is also focused on using AI to bolster player performance. Video footage and player data collected via sensors are now analysed using AI, with the Club developing a data lake composed of medical and performance data to further these efforts.

Maurizio Bonomi, Information Technology Director at AC Milan, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the collaboration: "Our team's mission is to support the Club and the business across all departments so that we're achieving excellence on and off the pitch. Pure helped AC Milan modernise our Media House so that content can be delivered across multiple platforms in one tenth of the time that it used to take. The project has been a great success and has marked a new step in our ongoing evolution into a media company."

Joao Silva, Vice President EMEA & Latin America at Pure Storage, highlighted the significance of the project in supporting AC Milan's strategic objectives: "We're thrilled to support AC Milan in its mission to transform the way it connects with fans, and its highly innovative use of AI to improve all-round player performance. The Club's legacy storage couldn't keep up with its modern, innovative data demands. AC Milan's Pure Storage platform meets their complex needs. These are cutting-edge initiatives that showcase how the delivery of real time content and AI can benefit football clubs and the welfare of their players."
