AirTrunk, a hyperscale data centre specialist operating across Asia-Pacific and Japan, has initiated the construction of its 20 megawatt (MW) data centre, AirTrunk OSK1 (OSK1), in west Osaka. The commencement of the project was marked by an exclusive Jichinsai ceremony.

A Shinto priest performed the Jichinsai ceremony, a traditional Japanese practice. This ritualistic ceremony spiritually prepares the site, ensuring safe and smooth construction progress.

Trevor Holloway, the Australian Consul-General and Senior Trade Commissioner in Osaka, along with AirTrunk's Head of Japan, Norihiro Matsushita, and a range of other company executives, were among the guests present at the occasion. Additionally, senior executives from Nishimatsu Construction Co., Nikken Sekkei, Kinden Corporation, Shinryo Corporation Kansai Electric Power Co. and Mitsubishi UFJ Banking Co. were in attendance.

The OSK1 facility is strategically positioned in West Osaka and is projected to play a pivotal role in Japan's digital evolution. It constitutes a critical piece of digital infrastructure, facilitating the region's shift towards cloud technology. The OSK1 data centre echoes the specifications of its forerunners, such as AirTrunk's data centres in east and west Tokyo, AirTrunk TOK1 and AirTrunk TOK2. With the inception of the OSK1 facility, a new major cloud availability zone will be serviced.

This new infrastructure will be imbued with AirTrunk's distinctive elements: speed, safety, reliability, and efficiency. These will prove instrumental in meeting the needs of the company's large technology customers. The data centre will bring considerable benefits to the local economy, serving as a catalyst for job creation and enabling growth and innovation in the cloud sphere.

The construction of the 20MW facility OSK1 in West Osaka marks the beginning of a new chapter for AirTrunk in its mission to boost cloud technology infrastructure in Japan. OSK1 is expected to contribute significantly to local economic growth and technological progression by fulfilling its commitment to enhancing speed, safety, reliability, and efficiency.
