BlackBerry launches CylanceMDR Pro to tackle cyber threats

Thu, 18th Jul 2024

BlackBerry has announced the launch of CylanceMDR Pro, a sophisticated managed detection and response service engineered on an Open XDR platform and powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The service is designed to address the increased complexity in modern cybersecurity environments, helping to alleviate the pressures faced by security teams dealing with advanced threats and limited resources.

CylanceMDR Pro is particularly beneficial for growing businesses, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), enabling them to enhance their cybersecurity capabilities swiftly without the need to overhaul existing infrastructures or hire additional analysts and threat hunters. The platform integrates with over 300 existing security tools, providing deep visibility across the entire IT infrastructure without the need for disruptive changes. It converts business data and applications into security sensors, allowing for the detection and prevention of threats that might be missed by other solutions.

“Despite organisations making significant investments in personnel and technology, many haven't seen a commensurate improvement in their risk envelope. CylanceMDR Pro is a game-changer for organisations seeking confidence in their cybersecurity posture,” said Nathan Jenniges, Senior Vice President and General Manager of BlackBerry Cybersecurity. He highlighted the platform's ease of deployment, which ensures that threat detection data is unified across endpoints, networks, cloud environments, and beyond.

Jenniges also pointed out a notable increase in cyber threats. “Across the industry, BlackBerry has observed close to a 250% increase in unique attacks per minute in the last year alone, with a continued trend in our latest Global Threat Intelligence Report,” he said. He emphasised the role of AI in the platform, which, combined with BlackBerry's expert security team, delivers comprehensive protection. “Our AI-driven approach, combined with our expert security team, delivers unmatched protection and peace of mind, allowing businesses to focus on what they do best,” he added.

CylanceMDR Pro is designed to be compatible with existing security tools, allowing companies to maximise their current investments and reduce the overall cost of ownership. The solution aggregates telemetry across various attack surfaces, including endpoints, networks, cloud environments, SaaS, identity, and email. This comprehensive approach is aimed at discerning attack signals from noise more accurately, leading to higher fidelity detections and quicker responses to threats.

Cylance AI, which powers CylanceMDR Pro, is described as the longest-running and continuously improving predictive AI in the market. The AI's functionality includes analysing telemetry for attack signals, prioritising cases for human-led investigations, and proactively stopping attacks before they cause damage. “Cylance AI has consistently outperformed other leading AIs in third-party testing,” noted Jenniges.

Craig Robinson, Research Vice President of Security Services at IDC, commented on the practicality of the new service. “The cybersecurity landscape is complicated. Being able to quickly onboard and use what is already in place is a huge boon for any organisation—SMB to Enterprise—that needs to solve its security problems fast. It’s hard to incorporate multiple offerings, but BlackBerry can make it simple with CylanceMDR Pro,” he said.
