BlackFog launches first anti-data exfiltration for macOS

Wed, 19th Feb 2025

BlackFog has introduced a new cybersecurity protection platform for macOS, launching what it describes as the first anti-data exfiltration solution designed to combat ransomware on this operating system.

The new macOS edition expands BlackFog's protection, previously available for Windows, Android, and ChromeOS. This development provides threat coverage for Apple devices running macOS Ventura or later, aiming to address the increasing threat landscape targeting these systems.

A global concern for organisations is the rising incidence of ransomware and AI-driven attacks. BlackFog claims its technology, featuring AI-powered algorithms, provides continuous protection against these threats without requiring human oversight. This comes as 94% of all publicised cyberattacks reportedly involve data exfiltration, where prevention is crucial in mitigating ransomware attacks and associated data breaches.

BlackFog's introduction of its anti-data exfiltration (ADX) technology on macOS is seen as a timely measure, as the platform has become an attractive target for increasingly complex cyber threats. This step follows a series of enhancements to make data loss prevention seamless, eliminating the necessity for complex data classification and thus reducing operational demands on organisations.

Founder and CEO Dr. Darren Williams said, "While existing technologies such as Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) provide solid inbound protection, no one else has solved the problem of data exfiltration – and ultimately, the extortion that follows. Our macOS agent provides complete, unified security across the entire enterprise, managed effortlessly through our centralised console."

Cybercriminals are using AI for deepfakes and other sophisticated phishing techniques, underscoring the need for organisations to be prepared for advanced attack vectors. As cyber adversaries often remain undetected for extended periods before initiating attacks, detecting data exfiltration becomes increasingly vital for organisational security strategies.

BlackFog's approach offers a new countermeasure against the potentially severe consequences of ransomware, characterised by financial, operational, and reputational damage. The firm supports the notion that success in tackling these threats requires innovative methodologies and technologies.

BlackFog's latest offering announcement reflects its continued focus on addressing gaps in data protection and expanding support across diverse operating systems. Integrating its ADX technology on macOS could provide an enhanced layer of security for users facing vulnerabilities in a rapidly evolving digital threat environment.
