BlackLine has launched Verity Prepare for general use. The software is designed to automate account reconciliation preparation for finance teams.

The product targets one of the most manual parts of the financial close process, where accountants gather documents, investigate discrepancies and prepare records for review and audit.

Verity Prepare uses a multi-agent artificial intelligence system to analyse supporting documents, match transactions, identify reconciling items and assemble reconciliation files for sign-off. The system provides transparent reasoning, confidence scores and an audit trail for each recommendation, while leaving final approval to human users.

Preparing account reconciliations often involves pulling data from several systems, reviewing structured and unstructured financial information, and documenting the rationale behind differences. Those demands have made the process difficult to automate in ways that satisfy internal controls and external audit requirements.

The new product replaces a series of separate tasks with a single automated workflow. Specialised AI agents work together across the preparation process, from ingesting documents and isolating anomalies to drafting variance explanations and compiling a reconciliation package.

Finance focus

The launch reflects a broader push by software suppliers to move beyond general AI assistants into narrower, controlled applications for regulated business functions. In finance, that has meant greater emphasis on traceability, explainability and oversight before AI-generated work is accepted into official records.

BlackLine positions Verity Prepare as part of that shift, arguing that enterprise finance teams need systems that can produce work suitable for the financial record rather than simply generate responses or summaries.

The product follows an early adopter programme and is now being made broadly available to customers. Early adopters recorded up to a 92% reduction in manual reconciliation preparation time, according to BlackLine.

That claim underscores the labour intensity of the process. Preparing reconciliations is more than a clerical exercise because finance staff must assess evidence, determine the cause of variances and ensure documentation meets governance standards.

Owen Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of BlackLine, said the key issue for finance teams is confidence in AI-produced work, not automation alone.

"Finance organizations aren't looking for AI that simply automates more tasks - they're looking for AI they can trust with their most critical financial processes," said Owen Ryan, Chief Executive Officer, BlackLine. "Trust isn't achieved through autonomy alone. It comes from transparency, governance, and maintaining robust human oversight. Verity Prepare gives finance teams the confidence to deploy AI across one of accounting's most complex processes while keeping professionals firmly in control."

Early use

One early user cited by BlackLine was Delaware North. The company did not disclose the number of early adopters or the scale of deployments.

"With BlackLine's Verity AI, we've gone from concept to real-life practical use cases. We are excited to embrace where the future of work is going," said Chris Giambra, Corporate Accounting, Delaware North.

BlackLine has been building what it calls Agentic Financial Operations, a model in which specialised AI systems carry out parts of finance workflows under a common governance framework. Verity Prepare is part of that strategy within the Office of the CFO, alongside the company's wider software used across record-to-report and invoice-to-cash processes.

Its aim is to co-ordinate AI across finance workflows rather than deploy stand-alone assistants for individual tasks. In practice, that means using software agents to prepare, match, analyse and execute work while accountants retain responsibility for oversight, judgement and accountability.

BlackLine serves nearly 4,300 customers across multiple industries, according to the company.
