Blue Connections IT earns carbon neutral certification for second year
Tue, 12th Dec 2023

Blue Connections IT has earned its carbon neutral certification against the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard for the second year running. The achievement for the financial year ending June 30, 2023, reflects a strong commitment to a more sustainable operational framework.

A comprehensive evaluation of the organisation's Australian operation's greenhouse gas emissions was carried out by Pangolin Associates, a consultancy registered with Climate Active, to achieve this certification. The granular evaluation included elements of the full value chain, including electricity usage, business kilometres travelled, freight transportation, and day-to-day requirements like cleaning, software, stationery, and services provided by professionals like lawyers, public relations and advertising agencies.

Gordon Brownell, chief executive officer of Blue Connections IT, stated, "Blue Connections IT is thrilled to have achieved carbon neutral certification by Climate Active for the second consecutive year, demonstrating the company’s continued dedication to adopting more sustainable operating practices and reducing its overall impact on the environment."

In addition to replacing plastic packaging with recycled cardboard, leasing electric vehicles (EVs) to its employees, and installing six EV charging stations onsite, sustainability-driven Blue Connections IT has furthered its initiatives. Adding two EVs to its current fleet and pledging to double its solar panel array are among the key actions. The company has also marked a 339 per cent increase in employees choosing more ecological modes of commuting like walking, running, or cycling, and observed more staff adopting the EV leasing system and installing solar panels at home, maximising the sustainability of their work-from-home setups.

Pangolin Associates' results signified a notable 19.2 per cent reduction in Blue Connections IT's overall Year-on-Year (YoY) emissions compared to the previous financial year, further reinforcing the success of the company's sustainable strategies. Matthew Coleman, senior consultant - environment and energy, Pangolin Associates, remarked, "Blue Connections IT recognises that achieving carbon neutral certification with Climate Active is more than a box-ticking exercise; it's a serious commitment to lowering carbon dioxide emissions and aligning the overall business direction to become a sustainable operation."

Blue Connections IT’s commitment to environmental sustainability is central to its ethos. This includes helping customers and partners reach their emissions targets and understanding that sustainability is gaining significance in customers' buying decisions. "Committing to decreasing carbon emissions and investing in more sustainable processes and practices is a simple choice for the Blue Connections IT team. Blue Connections IT will continue to take steps to ensure it remains dedicated to further reducing emissions and operating more sustainably for years to come," assures Brownell.
