Broadcom introduces VMware Tanzu Platform 10 with GenAI features
Broadcom has announced the launch of VMware Tanzu Platform 10, a cloud-native application platform designed to accelerate software delivery. This platform is set to enhance governance and operational efficiency for platform engineering teams while simplifying the development process for software engineers. Additionally, the company has introduced Tanzu AI Solutions within the platform to assist application teams in delivering GenAI-powered intelligent applications quickly and safely.
Purnima Padmanabhan, General Manager of the Tanzu Division at Broadcom, highlighted the challenges business leaders face in harnessing the power of GenAI in their application strategies. "Business leaders want to harness the power of GenAI in their application strategy, but in many cases, they face complex challenges with this emerging technology, leading teams to create one-off experiments and silos that only add technical debt and risk," she said.
"Now, with Tanzu Platforms built-in AI development framework, developers can build high-performing, intelligent apps, regardless of their experience level or knowledge of Python. Tanzu AI Solutions help development teams go from dabbling in the sandbox to deploying enterprise-ready intelligent applications to production with confidence."
Tanzu Platform 10 builds on the Cloud Foundry's approach to accelerating application delivery and introduces simplified operations for developers. This includes automating secure container builds, binding services to applications, deploying code with a single command, and scaling applications. The platform also automates application and platform management tasks such as patching vulnerabilities, performing rolling upgrades, and enforcing policies with extensive visibility and AI-powered insights.
The new platform offers a self-managed global control plane for enhanced automation and visibility across all application environments. It features a developer experience for Kubernetes resembling that of Cloud Foundry, providing an application-centric layer of abstraction. This allows applications to run with consistent operational governance and compliance. Moreover, developers can focus on their applications without needing to manage infrastructure details. In contrast, platform and operations teams can manage infrastructure at scale, defining configurations to meet governance and compliance requirements.
Tanzu AI Solutions within Tanzu Platform 10 helps developers build safe, scalable, enterprise-ready GenAI applications. This includes the Spring AI framework, which offers developer-friendly Java APIs for integrating GenAI capabilities into applications, thereby removing the necessity for developers to train in Python. Additionally, the platform offers an enhanced OpenAI-compatible API gateway, robust observability features, and support for VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA.
Supporting air-gapped environments, Tanzu Platform 10 offers a simple, self-configuring installation experience for off-network, self-managed private cloud environments. This simplifies Kubernetes cluster creation and networking configuration, providing a ready-to-consume private cloud developer platform. The platform also includes global server load balancing and advanced networking features using VMware Avi Load Balancer, enabling dynamic networking and load balancing for Kubernetes environments.
Tanzu Platform 10 incorporates direct integration of hardened VM and OSS images through the Tanzu Application Catalog, facilitating secure deployments within private cloud estates. This integration ensures continuous vulnerability scanning of VM and OSS images, providing a secure and reliable infrastructure.
Several companies have already expressed their satisfaction with the VMware Tanzu Platform. Takashi Takaramoto, General Manager of System Division at SB Payment Service, stated, "Our partnership with the Tanzu team has reached its fifth year and we continue to have their support in scaling our environments and delivering a transaction volume of 8 trillion yen with no downtime. We are excited to continue our relationship with Broadcom and refactor legacy applications to host them on the Tanzu Platform."
Similarly, Hitachi Solutions and NTT Communications have leveraged the Tanzu Platform for their services. Takashi Maruyama, Department Manager at Hitachi Solutions, noted their use of the Tanzu Platform in their Digital Solution Creation Platform. At the same time, Toshifumi Watanabe, Director of Service Platforms at NTT Communications, highlighted the significant improvements in data processing speeds using VMware Tanzu Greenplum.
