Cirata launches Data Migrator 3.0 with advanced features

Fri, 6th Dec 2024

Cirata has released Data Migrator 3.0, offering enhanced support for Apache Iceberg and Databricks Delta Lake alongside significant improvements in data interoperability, automation, scalability, and security.

Data Migrator 3.0 aims to address the growing need for flexible data management solutions that avoid the risks and constraints of isolated data storage formats. Paul Scott-Murphy, Chief Technology Officer at Cirata, emphasised the importance of interoperability, stating, "Organisations understand the need to avoid the lock-in, technology constraints and costs that come with isolated data storage and formats. They need solutions that make it possible to use their largest data assets wherever they are created, in a variety of formats, and with whatever future technologies emerge. They want data interoperability."

The updated version introduces numerous features designed to enhance efficiency and reduce complexity in data management. These include the integration of extensive data interoperability capabilities and automation features to improve operational efficiency.

Scott-Murphy further highlighted the advancements by stating, "Our production-ready, direct support for open table formats like Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake eliminates the constraints of closed data architectures, even if you have petabytes of data held in formats or locations that previously required lengthy, complex and risky efforts to modernise. Data Migrator 3.0 is a significant advancement for organisations that want to future-proof their data management, analytics and AI strategies."

Key features include the ability to automate large dataset migration to environments using Apache Iceberg, which supports open data interoperability on a large scale. The enhanced support for Databricks Delta Lake optimises integration, facilitating seamless data transformation and ensuring scalability across cloud platforms.

The automation capabilities in Data Migrator 3.0 are augmented with a new internal scheduler that removes the need for manual configurations in recurring data migrations, allowing for user-defined custom schedules. This development streamlines complex data workflows in enterprise settings.

Furthermore, the release includes advanced data consistency verification to ensure accurate data matching during migrations without sacrificing performance. This feature aims to maintain data integrity across various storage systems.

Enhanced security measures have also been integrated into the new version. The support for Hashicorp Vault has been expanded, including greater role-based access control across all components. These measures aim to bolster security and access management for enterprise users.

Data Migrator 3.0 offers a fully automated solution for transferring and integrating Hadoop data across multiple environments without requiring changes to existing business operations, minimising the risk of data loss and ensuring zero downtime. Migration is supported for a variety of targets, including Hadoop Distributed File System, Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service, Amazon S3, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen 2, Google Cloud Storage, IBM Cloud Object Storage, and Oracle Object Storage.

The version is now available for enterprise use, continuing Cirata's approach to efficient data management and strategic adoption of modern data analytics.
