Cisco launches new smart Wi-Fi 7 access points for businesses

Today

Cisco has unveiled its new Wi-Fi 7 access points, aiming to transform connectivity, security, and assurance for workplaces.

The introduction of the smart Wi-Fi 7 access points comes as businesses face increasing pressure on their networks due to the rise of unmanaged services. These innovations from Cisco are set to offer solutions for the connectivity and security challenges faced by organisations while providing a robust foundation for future-proofing workplaces in Australia and beyond.

These access points are designed to enhance the flexibility of network management, allowing users to switch seamlessly between on-premises and cloud management. The introduction of a unified subscription license aims to simplify operations and facilitate easier investment in wireless networks that can grow alongside business needs.

Jeetu Patel, Chief Product Officer at Cisco, highlighted the importance of Wi-Fi in facilitating modern digital experiences. "Just about everything we do blends human behaviour with sensors, cameras, or screens—physical experiences in an increasingly digital world. And Wi-Fi is at the centre of it all," said Patel. "With our Wi-Fi 7 offering and Cisco Spaces, we deliver connectivity, security, data, and assurance. Now IT, real estate, and facilities teams can reimagine employee and customer experiences, everywhere they work and connect."

The deployment of Cisco's Wi-Fi 7 access points is anticipated to play a key role in enabling smarter workplaces. The AI-native wireless technology within these access points can adapt to various environments and continuously optimise performance, transforming how businesses operate with applications ranging from retail to healthcare.

Carlos Sanchez Baena, Telco Manager at Fira de Barcelona, expressed optimism about the new technology: "Fira de Barcelona hosts 270 events every year in Barcelona, including the flagship wireless connectivity technology event Mobile World Congress, and also conferences around the world. Executives from around the world convene to shape the future of wireless technology. So, it's critical we provide seamless connectivity across 500,000 square meters of our exhibition space. Only the most reliable, predictable, and secure wireless experiences will do. As high-bandwidth technology proliferates, the ability to support AR/VR and live-streaming is even more critical. That's why we're so happy Wi-Fi 7 from Cisco is here. They are the only provider we collaborate with for the most reliable, large scale and secure connectivity."

Brandon Butler, Senior Research Manager at IDC, remarked on the significance of Cisco's approach to wireless networks. "Wi-Fi is a ubiquitous technology that is a critical enabler of everyday and mission-critical communications for organisations across the world. In recent years, the industry has seen increased adoption of networking platforms to take advantage of simplified operations, powered by AI," Butler noted. "Cisco's wireless offering and unified licensing approach demonstrate the value of a platform approach for customers, granting them access to more flexibility, continued optimisation, and innovation."

The Wi-Fi 7 access points from Cisco will reportedly become available for order in November 2024, with shipments expected to commence the following December.
