Cloudera brings Data-in-Motion products to Red Hat OpenShift

Thu, 9th May 2024

Cloudera, the data company known for trusted enterprise AI, has announced the availability of its Data-in-Motion products as Kubernetes Operators for Red Hat OpenShift. This makes Cloudera one of the first to offer operator and commercial support for organisations wishing to run Apache NiFi data flows on Red Hat OpenShift.

The availability of this offering comes at an opportune time as the Australian Government continues to press for the comprehensive digitalisation of workforces, an initiative estimated to bolster the Australian economy by $315 billion over the next decade. The new offering will assist Australian businesses on their digital transformation journey as they will be able to deploy end-to-end data streaming capabilities on existing Kubernetes clusters more efficiently, leveraging benefits such as auto-scaling, efficient resource management and streamlined set-up and maintenance.

Keir Garrett, Regional Vice President, Cloudera ANZ, comments: “At Cloudera, we take an agnostic customer-first approach to everything we do and our partnership with Red Hat underpins this. It provides us with scalability and accelerates time to value for our shared customers enabling them to achieve their business outcomes faster. As entities tend to encounter cost and latency challenges from streaming data in the cloud, this new solution empowers them to maximise their existing assets quicker, by bringing the stream processing directly to their data versus pushing everything to the cloud.”

Today, the data products Company announced Cloudera Flow Management - Kubernetes Operator and Cloudera Streaming - Kubernetes Operator. These offerings allow customers to deploy Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka and Apache Flink clusters on Kubernetes application platforms like Red Hat OpenShift, the industry’s preeminent hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes.

The introduction of these Kubernetes Operators means that customers can deploy end-to-end data streaming capabilities on their existing Kubernetes clusters more easily. The benefits include auto-scaling, efficient resource management, as well as a finer streamlined set-up and operation.

Cloudera’s Data-in-Motion offerings provide the link between all enterprise data assets, delivering streaming data and real-time insights to any target system or application. Cloudera Flow Management - Kubernetes Operator and Cloudera Streaming - Kubernetes Operator reduce operational burden by using the tried and tested operator pattern that Red Hat OpenShift users are accustomed to.

Dipto Chakravarty, Chief Product Officer at Cloudera, spoke enthusiastically about the development: “We’re excited to be among the first to offer operator and commercial support for organisations looking to run Apache NiFi data flows on Red Hat OpenShift.”

“Cloudera Flow Management customers and open source users who migrate to Kubernetes Operators will instantly reap benefits from auto-scaling flows and streamlined cluster set-up and operations.”

The Data-in-Motion products that are available as Kubernetes Operators to run on Red Hat OpenShift are currently in the tech preview phase. They will be generally available as early as the second half of 2024. After obtaining the binaries from Cloudera’s repository, customers can immediately go ahead with installing the Kubernetes Operator on their Red Hat OpenShift cluster and build their first NiFi, Kafka, or Flink clusters configured to suit their requirements.
