Colt expands Sydney network, boosting connectivity options

Fri, 6th Dec 2024

Colt Technology Services is set to expand its network in Sydney, Australia, integrating over 250 commercial buildings and more than 20 data centres with advanced connectivity options.

The company announced its plans to upgrade the network infrastructure in Sydney with the aim of providing metro connectivity of up to 400Gbps and international connectivity up to 10Gbps. This development follows Colt's expansion into six Southeast Asian countries earlier this year.

By enhancing its own optical network, Colt anticipates being able to extend its services to about 300 local and international businesses with operations in Sydney. This move is expected to provide a significant boost to sectors like AI, fintech, and Big Data through improved service delivery, pricing, and customer experience.

Colt's history in Sydney includes launching international services in 2018 and a network optimisation in August 2022, which notably reduced latency between the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) in Sydney and the Singapore Exchange (SGX) to 87 milliseconds.

The company will now manage its services end-to-end on its digital infrastructure, eliminating its previous dependence on other licensed operators for local access services in Sydney. This is anticipated to lead to better service delivery times, enhanced network control, and competitive pricing.

Buddy Bayer, Chief Operating Officer of Colt Technology Services, commented on the expansion, "With the acquisition of the Lumen Technologies EMEA business in November of last year, we strengthened our position in the global marketplace and expanded our reach to North America through a strategic alliance with Lumen. In Asia, the B2B network services market in the region is currently forecasted to grow at a five-year average CAGR of 9.80% from 2022 to 2027*, higher than that of Europe (8.41%) and the United States (7.05%). The expansion of our network in Sydney, strategically positioned in the Pacific region, will support this growth and will give momentum to our Asian strategy."

Adding to this, Yasutaka Mizutani, President of the Asia Pacific region, stated, "We have established a unique position by providing our vertical solution, MarketPrizm, to capital market clients in the stock exchange and financial industry in Hong Kong and Singapore. Based on this expansion into the Sydney metropolitan area, we hope to contribute our network and services to A-end and B-end** customers in the region who are looking to expand their business from Sydney to overseas, or from overseas to Sydney, Australia."

Colt plans to start promoting its network services, including options like Dark Fibre, Wave, Ethernet, IP Access, Dedicated Cloud Access, On-Demand, IPVPN, and SD-WAN, from December 2024. The services are expected to be ready for delivery by March 2025.

The expansion aligns with Colt's strategy to accommodate the rising demand for bandwidth and the need for flexible, on-demand services. This initiative will potentially benefit around 300 global customers by 2028.
