CompTIA launches AI course to boost workplace skills & confidence
CompTIA has released a new course designed to help professionals develop practical skills in AI prompt writing, automation, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence at work.
The course, titled CompTIA AI Prompting Essentials, is aimed at professionals regardless of their experience or job function. It seeks to offer hands-on practice and training using realistic workplace scenarios to help individuals build job-ready abilities for working with AI chatbots and related tools.
Practical training focus
According to CompTIA, the training includes practical exercises such as deciding when and how to use AI for specific tasks, crafting effective AI prompts, evaluating AI-generated outputs for accuracy and bias, engaging with AI responses to enhance outputs, and understanding the ethical and secure use of AI. The course also addresses the automation of routine tasks, leveraging AI in multi-step workflows, and using AI for common workplace functions.
The instruction is delivered through a combination of videos, textual content, and interactive activities. The learning approach is structured around CompTIA's Learning Progression Model, which is intended to support efficient and effective skills acquisition through research-based techniques. Learners are immersed in AI-powered real-world scenarios designed to encourage project-based skill development throughout the course.
Upon completing the instruction and a 30-minute competency assessment, participants receive a CompTIA Competency Certificate (CompCert) to validate their competence in the covered skills.
Industry demand
"AI chatbots are being deployed across the modern workforce to boost employee efficiency and effectiveness, but their impact can be limited when employees are uncertain about how to use them," said Henry Mann, Senior Director, Product Development, CompTIA. "AI Prompting Essentials helps learners become more knowledgeable, comfortable and confident when working with AI in workplace settings."
CompTIA's data indicates there is rising demand for AI-related skills. Its AI Hiring Index shows relatively higher growth in positions where some AI skills are needed to perform effectively. Research from the organisation also highlights that artificial intelligence is the main domain where HR departments are expected to increase their investment in training in the coming year.
Wider course offering
AI Prompting Essentials is the latest in CompTIA's Essentials Series, which aims to provide accessible upskilling opportunities across a range of current and emerging business and technology topics. Other courses already available in the series address topics such as business concepts, cloud computing, product management, and workplace soft skills.
Alongside the new course, CompTIA AI Essentials - introduced earlier in the year - offers a foundational look at artificial intelligence, with coverage of core concepts, tools and methods that are increasingly important in a technology-centric workplace.
This expansion of CompTIA's course range comes amidst trends identified in recent industry research, notably the "Tech Jobs Report" from August 2025 and "Workforce and Learning Trends" study from April 2025, which point to the growing necessity for employees across sectors to engage with AI technologies in meaningful ways.
