Cubic & Skylo team up to boost vehicle connectivity

Fri, 6th Dec 2024

Cubic Telecom and Skylo Technologies have announced a commercial partnership to integrate satellite connectivity into software-defined vehicle solutions, enhancing communication capabilities for vehicles globally.

The partnership, between Cubic Telecom and Skylo Technologies, aims to provide seamless communication and network coverage for vehicles by incorporating satellite connectivity with existing solutions. This initiative is designed to support critical vehicle functions, including location tracking, remote diagnostics, vehicle unlocking, and emergency communications, even in the most remote regions.

Cubic Telecom, known for its extensive connectivity solutions, currently supports over 21 million vehicles across 190 countries. The integration of Skylo's satellite connectivity is facilitated using standards-based NB-NTN chipsets, ensuring efficient messaging protocols that enhance the benefits offered by satellite networks.

Barry Napier, Chief Executive Officer of Cubic Telecom, stated, "By integrating Skylo's NTN capabilities with our software-defined vehicle solutions, we are elevating critical vehicle communications to new heights of energy efficiency, smart technology integration and robust security. This collaboration allows us to optimise energy usage through intelligent network management, harness cutting-edge smart technologies for seamless connectivity and reinforce security measures to protect data and communications. This will underscore our commitment to innovation, safety and sustainability, ensuring our customers can rely on secure connectivity whether on the road or in remote areas—especially during emergency situations."

Parthsarathi Trivedi, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Skylo, added, "Skylo's partnership with Cubic is a key enabler for OEMs to seamlessly bridge satellite and cellular networks for remote vehicle monitoring and control, emergency messaging, and roadside assistance in a cost-efficient way, with service that's live and available today. Operating with a standards-based solution provides automotive OEMs the predictability and reliability they need as they integrate satellite connectivity in their multi-year product roadmap."

This partnership specifically aims to enhance reliability in emergency communications. Satellite technology is anticipated to improve response times and effectiveness during disasters, thereby supporting emergency response teams in life-saving missions.

Skylo utilises dedicated, licensed mobile satellite service (MSS) spectrum for its global coverage, which avoids the necessity for exclusion zones and mitigates potential interference issues typically faced when satellite and cellular networks share frequencies.
