Dell unveils tougher classroom laptops for AI‑era study
Dell Technologies has expanded its education range with new Windows and Chrome OS laptops, alongside refreshed programmes aimed at schools and students.
The new models include the Dell Pro Education 11 Laptop and a 2-in-1 variant, the Dell Pro Education 14 Laptop, and the Dell Chromebook 14 Laptop. They join the Dell Chromebook 11, which launched late last year.
The launch comes as schools consider how emerging tools, including generative AI, could change teaching and learning. Dell says it wants to equip students and educators with technology and programmes for what it calls the AI era.
New devices
The Dell Pro Education 11 models run Windows and target younger students and staff who move between rooms. Dell describes the device as compact and lightweight, with an optional touchscreen.
The Dell Pro Education 14 Laptop also runs Windows. Dell says the 14-inch screen size suits older students who need more space for multitasking during lessons and assignments.
The Dell Chromebook 14 Laptop runs Chrome OS and also uses a 14-inch display. Dell positions it as an option for schools that standardise on Google's platform and web-based learning tools.
Dell says the latest education PCs prioritise durability and easier maintenance. The chassis meets MIL-STD 810H testing, and the machines include reinforced corners, spill-resistant keyboards, and 180-degree hinges. Dell says the hinges have been tested to withstand tens of thousands of cycles.
Across the line, the laptops use Intel N-Series processors. Dell says the systems deliver all-school-day battery life.
IT and upkeep
Schools and education departments often need devices that can stay in service for several years, with predictable repair processes and readily available spare parts. Dell says it has built serviceability into the line-up with customer-replaceable batteries and keyboards.
Dell also points to shared parts across models to simplify maintenance. The devices come with up to five years of warranty coverage.
For connectivity, the laptops support Wi‑Fi 6E. Dell says the devices include built-in security and device management options for IT teams managing large fleets of student devices.
Dell also promotes its Managed IT Services for schools, which include 24/7 monitoring, proactive issue resolution, and dedicated support options.
Programmes and partners
The update also includes initiatives that sit alongside device sales. Dell says it has worked with educators, non-profits, and community leaders on programmes focused on digital skills and pathways into technology careers.
One programme is Girls Who Game, which Dell says aims to build early interest in STEM, alongside leadership and critical thinking. The programme was developed in partnership with Microsoft and Intel.
Another initiative is Tech Career Circuit, delivered in partnership with Discovery Education. Dell says it targets students in grades 6-12 and includes hands-on resources, digital skills, and AI-focused learning linked to IT careers.
Education focus
Dell has long sold devices into education, where procurement teams often balance cost, manageability, durability, and student safety. It competes in a crowded market that includes Chromebook vendors and Windows PC makers offering ruggedised models built for schools.
Kevin Terwilliger, Head of Product, Client Devices at Dell Technologies, said the company's approach is shaped by how schools use technology day to day.
"Dell's leadership in education is rooted in a deep understanding of how learning evolves alongside the students and teachers who shape it," Terwilliger said. "When we design technology for the classroom, we look beyond utility to create tools that foster resilience, spark curiosity and enable meaningful connections. Our expanded portfolio of purpose-built education devices reflects this commitment-offering durable, high-performing solutions that meet the real-world demands of students and educators alike."
Dell says the expanded range gives schools more choice across operating systems and form factors as they plan refresh cycles and broaden student access to computers.
