'Dramatic' growth of hyperconvergence adoption driven by cost reduction and efficiency

SimpliVity announced the results of its 2016 State of Hyperconverged Infrastructure Market Report and the results show the crucial influencers of planned hyperconvergence adoption are data centre cost reduction and operational efficiency.

More than 1000 global IT professionals provided feedback, 80% of whom plan to adopt hyperconverged infrastructure within the next two years. The report also showed that hyperconverged infrastructure is being used for mission-critical workloads, mixed workloads and many other functions.

“The report is clear – the hyperconverged infrastructure market has dramatically grown over the last year, and with the large number of organisations planning to adopt within the next two years, that growth is accelerating. We believe this report signals that we’ve reached an important inflection point in the market. Hyperconverged infrastructure adoption is moving beyond single-system use cases to support all IT services and applications, including business and mission-critical, for organisations around the globe,” says Marianne Budnik, CMO, SimpliVity.

Key findings from the report:

  • Cost reduction is the top benefit by planned and current adopters
  • 42% of those planning to adopt hyperconverged infrastructure rank operational efficiency as their top IT priority
  • Data recovery, data backup and recovery capabilities are ranked second and third for planned adopters, indicating key areas for improvement
  • 80% year-over-year increase in adoption of hyperconverged infrastructure in the midmarket
  • 88% of organisations planning to adopt hyperconverged infrastructure plan to do so in the next one to two years, which is a 15% increase over 2015, which indicates that adoption is accelerating
  • 60% of Asia-Pacific-Japan organisations plan to adopt hyperconverged infrastructure within the next 12 months.

“Today, hyperconverged infrastructure is beginning to enjoy mainstream adoption and attention. It is consistently being adopted for a wider range of use cases and is gaining serious momentum with enterprise customers. While in past years, we were predominately seeing hyperconverged infrastructure being attached to more niche use cases like VDI and ROBO, we are now seeing widespread adoption for a more diverse and mission-critical selection of use cases,” says Scott Lowe, ActualTech Media.
