DroneShield launches RfPatrol plugin to enhance TAK drone alerts

Tue, 14th Oct 2025

DroneShield has released a new RfPatrol plug-in designed to integrate with the Team Awareness Kit (TAK) ecosystem, allowing operators to access real-time drone detection data within their existing operational platforms.

Integration with TAK

The RfPatrol-Plugin is now available for RfPatrol Mk2 users and delivers DroneShield's counter-drone intelligence directly into the Civil Team Awareness Kit (CivTAK) interface. TAK, originally developed by the US Department of Defence, has become a widely adopted tool for real-time geospatial mapping and situational awareness across security, public safety, and critical infrastructure organisations.

The TAK ecosystem, which exceeded 250,000 users globally as of 2020, has witnessed ongoing growth. Integrations like DroneShield's RfPatrol-Plugin are designed to meet demand for seamless data sharing and operational insights in the field.

Real-time situational data

With the new plugin, detections from the handheld RfPatrol Mk2 can now be visualised directly on the CivTAK map interface in real time. Integrated notification cards present instant alerts, supporting rapid decision-making for field teams.

Operators have the ability to overlay DroneShield detections with information from additional sensors and device telemetry, creating a consolidated operational picture within the familiar CivTAK environment.

The plugin is available to RfPatrol users for installation on Android devices via the DroneShield Access Portal, following successful completion of the official TAK vetting process. This availability is intended to streamline access for operators and eliminates the need for them to use separate, standalone systems.

The integration aligns with DroneShield's approach to offering scalable, software-based solutions that complement existing workflows in security and public safety operations.

Industry context

CivTAK, as the civilian form of TAK, has established itself as a standard for operational information sharing across multiple sectors. The platform supports use cases ranging from law enforcement and emergency response to infrastructure protection, providing a collaborative and interoperable environment for teams on the ground.

The introduction of counter-drone detection into this environment aims to further enhance the platform's utility in the face of evolving aerial threats.

Delivering a native plugin into the TAK ecosystem reflects DroneShield's philosophy of interoperability and customer focus. By embedding our detection capabilities directly into the systems operators already rely on, we are expanding mission effectiveness and strengthening DroneShield's position as the trusted leader in end-to-end counter-drone technology.

According to Angus Bean, Chief Product & Technology Officer at DroneShield, "By embedding our detection capabilities directly into the systems operators already rely on, we are expanding mission effectiveness and strengthening DroneShield's position as the trusted leader in end-to-end counter-drone technology."

Expanded solution pathway

The integration of RfPatrol with CivTAK is part of a broader strategy by DroneShield to ensure its technology can be accessed wherever operators require it. The newly released plugin opens opportunities for additional DroneShield products, including DroneSentry-X Mk2, to become compatible with the TAK ecosystem.

For end users, the integration creates a workflow where situational awareness is updated in real time without additional system requirements. For DroneShield, the move is positioned as an extension of its scalable counter-drone product offering.

Regulatory considerations

DroneShield notes that CivTAK remains subject to the US Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations, which restrict use in embargoed or sanctioned countries, as well as by restricted parties or purposes. The availability and use of DroneShield products are also subject to legal regulations in other jurisdictions, and all commercial actions must comply with applicable law.
