Dynatrace introduces cloud-based automation to software development
Wed, 21st Apr 2021
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Software intelligence firm Dynatrace has brought forth new capabilities in cloud-based automation to its Software Intelligence Platform.

The capabilities are delivered through a new Cloud Automation Module, which leverages the Dynatrace Platform to automate and orchestrate the software development lifecycle.

Users can now automate code tests and quality checks against their service level objectives. Further, the module is supported by a version of the open source CNCF project Keptn.

According to Dynatrace, the module will help the Dynatrace Platform, and users, to transform the development process. DevOps teams, development teams, and site reliability engineering teams can now manage applications natively in the cloud.

Dynatrace SVP of product management, Steve Tack, says, “In dynamic cloud-native architectures, ensuring high-quality, secure, and fast release cycles is incredibly time consuming, with manual processes and siloed visibility across the application lifecycle.

He adds that Dynatrace's Cloud Automation module integrates with existing DevOps and automates the most mundane tasks. The benefit for teams is that they now have more time for innovation.

“Through this release, we are advancing both our customers' and the industry's movement toward highly automated, AI-driven DevOps.

Dynatrace Cloud Automation offers:

  • Automated quality checking of pre-production applications against SLO-based quality gates to ensure error-free code moves through each stage of the delivery pipeline, without manual checks or intervention.
  • Automated, closed-loop remediation of releases that fail in production, including roll-back of canary or blue/green deployments, management of feature flags, orchestration of remediation runbooks, triggering incident management workflows, and precise context for developers through AI-powered root-cause analysis.
  • Automatic release inventory and version comparison to continuously evaluate the performance of individual release versions. If an issue is found, automatically restore the most stable version. This can help teams deliver the highest quality releases, consistently.

ERT director of operations, Simon Pilar, says Dynatrace Cloud Automation is transforming the way his company develops and manages cloud-native applications.

“It ensures the applications we deliver meet our highest standards by automatically determining if they are ready to move on to the next stage in the lifecycle. It also enables our developers to spend less time troubleshooting, and more time driving faster innovation for the business and our customers.

The Dynatrace Cloud Automation Module will be available within the next 90 days.

The Dynatrace Software Intelligence Platform also includes the following modules: Application and Microservices Monitoring, Application Security, Business Analytics, Digital Experience Monitoring, and Infrastructure Monitoring.
