Ethernity Networks boosts UEP2025 with PON capabilities
Ethernity Networks has unveiled significant enhancements to its UEP2025 edge platform, adding Passive Optical Network (PON) optical line termination capabilities. These new inclusions, announced today, are set to simplify the deployment of fibre-based access networks for operators, bolstering their ability to deliver high-bandwidth services to both residential and business subscribers.
The UEP2025 platform now offers 10 Gigabit per second (XGS-PON) and Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) optical line termination capabilities. This added versatility provides operators with multiple options in deploying fibre-based networks, whether in new infrastructure projects or upgrades to existing networks. Ethernity Networks noted that this upgrade would assist operators in reducing their dependency on older, legacy systems.
Initially conceived for Active Ethernet Access, the UEP2025 incorporates Ethernity's proprietary technology to support a myriad of applications. The platform functions as a Carrier Ethernet Switch or Router and now includes the option for a full-featured, disaggregated remote optical line termination (OLT) system. This adaptability enables the UEP2025 to address varied network edge applications through a single, programmable platform.
The newly introduced PON technology extends the UEP2025's capabilities to include support for Passive Optical Networks, particularly benefiting Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) deployments. This development positions the UEP2025 as a comprehensive solution for operators looking to expand their service offerings and increase bandwidth capacities.
Several key trends have driven the adoption of the UEP2025's enhanced features. One major trend is the unrelenting demand for bandwidth due to the rising popularity of cloud computing, video collaboration, and artificial intelligence applications. Fibre optic networks, with their high capacity and low latency, are increasingly seen as essential infrastructure to support these requirements.
Additionally, government initiatives such as the US Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) programme are accelerating the expansion of fibre optic networks in underserved regions. The UEP2025's new capabilities make it a viable option for operators looking to benefit from these development initiatives.
Ethernity Networks has also highlighted the trend of disaggregated open networking, which the UEP2025 is well designed to support. The platform's programmable networking engine allows Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to integrate best-in-class functionalities from various vendors, fostering flexibility and potentially reducing costs.
