Fastly launches new Edge Observability product range
Wed, 16th Nov 2022
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Fastly has released a new product range for Edge Observability, improving how it delivers advanced edge and origin visibility and analytics.

With this launch, the global edge cloud platform is expanding existing real-time logging and metrics functionality, allowing customers to build their own observability systems by surfacing real-time historical data in a single pane of glass.

In addition, Fastly customers will now be able to interpret data and take fast, meaningful action through near-instant deployments.

“Observability is essential for digital transformation. It helps Site Reliability Engineering teams manage application health and provide security operations teams insights into trends and anomalies that they can act upon to keep their applications and users safe and running,” says Lakshmi Sharma, Chief Product and Strategy Officer, Fastly.

“We can now offer developers, and an entire chain of DevOps teams, the fastest, most flexible edge observability solution where they have the freedom to be innovative and creative.”

Fastly notes that its customers need to be able to monitor the status of a site, product or service while also being able to quickly address any issues before they become a business-wide problem.

The company’s new offering provides valuable insights, helping to recognise and defend against suspicious activity, continuously improve processes, and in turn, provide superior customer experiences.

Fastly is offering two 30-day free trial options to allow customers to experience its latest product range.

Customers can now start an Origin or Domain Inspector trial directly from Fastly UI and put the capabilities to the test without having to commit to anything.

Fastly offers a flexible Observability product line, including:

Customisable logging

Customers can log any aspect of HTTP requests and responses through a large variety of logging formats (for example, Common Log Format, JSON, Key/Value, CSV, and more).

Support for a wide variety of integrations

Currently sitting at 33, this encompasses third-party services for storage and analysis to enhance business workflows.

Breadth and depth of Edge Observability data

This covers extremely granular visibility into more than 200 metrics related to client, origin, cache, WAF, Compute@Edge, and Image Optimisation, among others.

Historical reporting

Fastly’s historical metrics go back to the day of the service creation, resurfacing 100% of the data.

Real-time data

Metrics and logs are available in real-time. Metrics are available every second, and logs can be streamed as they occur.

Private log storing

Customers store their own logs so they can have complete control and confidence over the access and protection of their data.
