First IT products certified under updated TCO criteria

Yesterday

The first IT products have achieved certification under updated sustainability criteria set by TCO Certified, the global certification program for sustainable IT products.

With this update, TCO Certified has established new benchmarks for environmental and social responsibility in the IT sector. The initial certifications have been awarded to products from brands such as Asus, Dell, Eizo, HP, Lenovo, Philips, and Samsung. This achievement signifies significant progress in the ongoing effort to reduce the environmental impact of IT products.

Organisations leveraging TCO Certified products make a verified and reliable choice that underscores the prioritisation of sustainability in the industry. The collective demand from global organisations accelerates advancements towards reduced climate impacts, better supply chain conditions, minimisation of hazardous substances, and promoting a circular economy in IT.

Sören Enholm, CEO of TCO Development, said, "Our updated criteria raise the bar for sustainability in the IT sector. We are also proud to announce that the first certified product models come from some of the world's most well-known brands. These companies have clearly heard the call from IT purchasers who rely on TCO Certified to demand more sustainable electronics. Together, we are driving real progress in the IT industry."

The revised criteria address critical challenges concerning climate, hazardous substances, circularity, and supply chain responsibility. They offer IT decision-makers, including procurement professionals, IT managers, finance leaders, sustainability officers, and policymakers, a clear framework to communicate their sustainability priorities through purchasing decisions.
