Honeywell to enhance Melton Hospital's energy efficiency
Melbourne's Melton Hospital has appointed Honeywell to provide building automation solutions aimed at enhancing the facility's energy and operational efficiency.
The partnership is under a 25-year agreement, with Honeywell set to implement its building management software, including the Honeywell Forge Enterprise Performance Management software.
This initiative is aligned with the hospital's status as Victoria's first all-electric healthcare facility. By relying exclusively on electricity, the hospital supports efforts to reduce emissions and the state of Victoria's objective to reach net zero by 2050.
The integration of the Honeywell Forge system will enable condition-based maintenance to contribute to the resilience of critical systems, minimise unplanned reactive work, and reduce energy costs.
The machine learning capabilities of Honeywell Forge will allow the hospital to continuously analyse energy consumption patterns, enabling it to automatically adjust to energy-saving techniques without impacting air quality.
"Honeywell's technologically advanced building automation solutions combined with our decades of experience in total asset management make us uniquely positioned to support the building services for the Melton Hospital both today and over the next 25 years," stated Lisa Whitehead, Vice President and General Manager, Pacific, Honeywell Building Automation. "As a partner to the Melton Hospital, we are committed to helping deliver Victoria's first energy-efficient hospital that provides an optimum indoor environment with a best-in-class design built to address the critical needs of patients."
The hospital will also feature Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) technologies to optimise efficiencies across design, construction, and operation. Honeywell will manage these efficiency objectives, focusing on optimising peak energy demand, energy use, and water consumption costs to ensure adaptability to evolving social and climate conditions.
The Melton Hospital will host a range of services including a 24-hour emergency department, ambulatory care, maternity, neonatal care, mental health support, radiology services, and an education and training centre for medical professionals in Melbourne's western region.
The hospital project is being realised as a public-private partnership, with Western Health operating all clinical services.
The Exemplar Health consortium holds a government contract to finance, design, construct, and maintain the hospital for 25 years after its completion. The consortium comprises Capella Capital as sponsor and investor; Lendlease Infrastructure Investments and Invesis as investors; Lendlease as the builder; and Honeywell and Compass Group responsible for facilities and maintenance management.
Sarah Neaves, Director at Capella Capital, noted, "This work will help deliver a critical uplift in the capacity of public health services in Melton."
"As Melbourne's outer west continues to grow, the Melton Hospital project will allow the hospital to better support its patients, families, and staff. We look forward to working closely with the Victorian Government, Western Health and consortium members to deliver this critical piece of health infrastructure."
Honeywell draws upon its extensive experience in total asset management and public-private partnership projects, bolstered by over three decades of operating in Australia.
The Melton Hospital project is consistent with Honeywell's broader aims within the healthcare sector and its focus on major trends including automation and the energy transition.
