HPE introduces ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server for edge efficacy

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced the launch of the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server, focusing on improving performance for demanding applications and workloads situated at the edge. This latest offering aims to reduce dependency on distant data centres or cloud resources, optimising latency, bandwidth utilisation, and connectivity costs.

Addressing various edge locations, the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 has been designed with compactness and ruggedness in mind, making it suitable for environments such as retail stores, clinics, banks, and manufacturing lines. It features built-in air filtration for dusty environments, energy efficiency, vibration-tolerant operation, and quieter performance compared to traditional data centre servers. Its versatile design enables distributed organisations to implement edge computing without the complications of deploying conventional data centre hardware in remote locations.

Krista Satterthwaite, SVP & General Manager of HPE Compute, stated, "The HPE ProLiant DL145 is a perfect fit for the edge: rugged and compact in size, with quiet acoustics and power efficiency that puts a lot of processing power in small spaces, all with the ability to ensure high performance both today and in the future as customer needs evolve." She continued, "It's also critical for businesses with distributed locations to be able to manage remote servers when they don't have IT experts nearby, ultimately saving time and allowing businesses to focus on their core operations – all while keeping costs in check."

The new server extends HPE's existing ProLiant Gen11 edge server portfolio, supporting various industry applications such as inventory management, pricing, and point of sale, along with edge-specific analytics, business intelligence, content delivery, and artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) workloads. The system integrates with a growing ecosystem of independent software vendor (ISV) partners, providing specialised solutions for edge scenarios across retail, manufacturing, and other sectors.

Furthermore, the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 can be deployed securely and efficiently via the HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management cloud-native solution. This enables zero-touch deployment, allowing organisations to ship servers to remote locations for easy setup by non-IT staff, while centralised IT teams maintain remote access, monitoring, and management of the servers.

This development is expected to aid organisations in obtaining real-time insights through onsite data processing, leading to faster decision-making and reduced reliance on external data centres or cloud resources. Equipped with a fourth-generation AMD EPYC 8004 processor featuring up to 64 cores, the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 provides robust processing capabilities for enterprise applications and can support up to 128 virtual machines (VMs).

Security remains a primary focus for HPE, particularly concerning data derived from users, devices, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The company's emphasis on security is deeply ingrained, with protections starting from the factory, rooted in the silicon, and further enhanced in the firmware.
