Jamie Norton joins ISACA Board of Directors for 2024-2025 term
Jamie Norton has been appointed to the Board of Directors at ISACA, a global association for IT governance, risk management, and cybersecurity professionals. Norton, an Australian cybersecurity expert, ascends to the board for the 2024-2025 term.
Norton brings over 25 years of experience in cybersecurity, risk management, and governance to ISACA. He currently serves as a Partner at McGrathNicol, where he provides strategic performance and risk insights across various industries. His career includes a significant tenure as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the Australian Taxation Office, where he oversaw security governance, risk, intelligence, operations, testing and forensics.
Commenting on his new role, Norton stated, "For me, ISACA has always been about the community of like-minded professionals that underpin digital trust in our society. Our local chapters provide opportunities to build relationships that have stayed with me for decades. These chapters offer forums for industry updates, advocacy, learning and knowledge transfer, and support for undertaking industry-leading certifications that have been a cornerstone of my career."
He continued, "As a global community, we are confronting unprecedented threats, including the rapid evolution and weaponisation of AI, an unhealthy normalisation of data breaches, and a concerning shortage of experienced cybersecurity professionals. It is critical that we prioritise continuous education and certification to develop skills and talent, a mission that aligns closely with ISACA's objectives. And more than ever, we need to ensure we are providing opportunities for future generations of security professionals."
ISACA CEO Erik Prusch expressed his enthusiasm for Norton's appointment. "I am pleased to welcome Jamie to ISACA's Board of Directors. Jamie's dedication and commitment to the industry is demonstrated through his nearly two decades of active involvement with ISACA, where he has contributed at the local chapter board level, organised conferences and participated in the CISM Certification Working Group.
"He joins a diverse and dynamic group of professionals focused on evolving and strengthening the support provided to our global members. Jamie's wealth of expertise will be invaluable as we navigate a new era of emerging technology and complex digital threats," Prusch added.
In addition to his role at McGrathNicol, Norton serves on the Advisory Board at Avertro, a cybersecurity startup focused on enhancing organisational cyber resilience and AI safety. His career includes leadership roles at NEC, Tenable, Check Point and the World Health Organisation. Based in Australia, he is also known for his regular appearances as an industry speaker and media commentator on cybersecurity issues.
Norton holds formal qualifications in accounting, finance, commercial law, IT and taxation, and is an affiliate member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. His broad range of expertise is seen as a significant asset to ISACA, as the organisation continues its mission to build digital trust and empower cybersecurity professionals worldwide.
