KuCoin opens Sydney headquarters & appoints new local chief

Tue, 18th Nov 2025

KuCoin has announced the establishment of a new local headquarters in Sydney as it expands operations and appoints a new Australian Managing Director. The move is part of a broader plan to enhance KuCoin's presence and commitment to the country through local leadership and community engagement.

Australian expansion

The new Sydney office is set to serve as KuCoin's main hub for Australia. The company plans to create new skilled roles in compliance, operations, cybersecurity and product development over the next year. These roles reflect the business's stated focus on regulatory alignment and security in a fast-evolving sector.

James Pinch has been named as the Australian Managing Director. He brings experience from the financial services and fintech sectors, having worked across corporate advisory, trading, and brokerage. KuCoin's local appointment forms part of efforts to recruit further talent and establish a long-term base in the country.

"KuCoin is doubling down on Australia, investing in local jobs and capability, which is great news for the local crypto industry. Investors down under are serious about digital assets and the industry is projected to continue to grow in the coming year by almost 20% to a projected total revenue of US$1.2bn by 2026. In return, they need transparency, stability, and innovation - exactly what KuCoin provides. With our commitment to robust local engagement and top-tier security, we're here to support the next generation of Australian investors."

Market development

Australia is one of the most active crypto markets worldwide. KuCoin reports that more than 360,000 Australians currently use its global platform. Digital assets have become the third most commonly held investment in the country, with 12 percent of adults holding them. This puts digital assets ahead of exchange-traded funds and international equities among Australian investors.

Estimates put the global cryptocurrency market capitalisation at AUD $6.5 trillion, reflecting its evolution from a niche segment to a more established asset class.

Leadership priorities

The appointment of local leadership and strengthening of compliance and operational capacity are key elements in KuCoin's regional strategy. Global CEO BC Wong recently visited Sydney to support the office opening and staff expansion efforts. He emphasised the importance of local operations aligning with demands for higher standards in security and transparency from both Australian customers and regulators.

"The appointment of James Pinch and our new Australian leadership team is a key element of our strategy and a clear signal of how serious we are about this market. We are one of the most innovative exchanges offering retail derivatives to Australian customers and are dedicated to delivering a regulated, connected, and converging future for digital and traditional finance to Australian customers," said BC Wong, Global CEO, KuCoin.

"The Australian market is maturing. Users and regulators alike are demanding higher standards of security and compliance. Our team's mandate is to deliver world-class protection, deeper liquidity, and a transparent relationship with regulators," said Wong.

Community engagement

KuCoin has engaged in local sponsorships, including support for the Australian Crypto Convention. As part of its Australian market push, the company announced a partnership with professional golfer Adam Scott. Scott will use a KuCoin-branded golf bag at major Australian tournaments and front a broader campaign focused on themes of integrity and reliability.

Scott commented on the partnership by speaking to the values he sees in the business's approach to the market.

"I've been following the crypto space for several years and have been impressed by KuCoin's commitment to security and transparency. As someone who values precision, discipline and long-term thinking, I see these same qualities in how KuCoin approaches the market. I'm proud to partner with a platform that's raising the bar for the entire industry, and I'm looking forward to engaging with the Australian crypto community through this partnership," said Adam Scott.
