Medow Health AI has raised AUD $3.5 million from existing investors, taking the Australian medical technology company's total seed funding to AUD $8.5 million.

The company will use the money to expand AI Front Desk, a product for specialist healthcare reception teams that handles inbound patient calls.

The round was backed entirely by current shareholders, including Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Chief Executive Officer and oncologist Professor Michael Boyer, and orthopaedic surgeon Michael Solomon. The support comes as Medow broadens its product line beyond its original software for doctors.

Medow's main product to date has been an AI scribe that records specialist consultations, documents them, and produces clinical reports. That software is now used in more than 1,000 specialist clinics across Australia and New Zealand.

The company expects to process about 3 million specialist consultations this year, representing 300% growth from the previous year. That business has given Medow a base from which to expand further into administrative work inside specialist practices.

Call handling

According to the company, AI Front Desk integrates with a clinic's practice management system. It answers inbound calls, manages bookings, passes on patient messages to clinical staff, and diverts some calls back to reception staff when needed.

The focus on reception operations targets a common issue in specialist care, where clinics often struggle to answer all incoming calls while staff are helping patients at the front desk. Medow says as many as half of patient calls to specialist clinics can go unanswered.

"Our new system is designed to support front-desk staff not replace them as up to 50 percent of patient calls go unanswered as a result of increasing demand for specialist services, staffing issues and the need to prioritise patients in front of them," said Joel Freiberg, co-founder of Medow Health AI.

He said missed calls can have direct consequences for patients seeking appointments, test results, or repeat prescriptions. "When calls go unanswered, it can directly impact the patient and make it harder for them to get the help they need, whether that's an appointment, results, or a repeat prescription."

Freiberg added that the product is intended to handle every incoming call and assess urgency before involving clinic staff where necessary. "AI Front Desk makes sure that every call gets answered, triaged, and prioritised, with calls diverted back to reception staff when needed."

Broader platform

The fundraising marks a shift in Medow's strategy from a single-product business focused on clinical note-taking to a broader software platform for specialist practices. The new product emerged from demand among existing users.

"This is a pivotal shift in our business as we're moving to a multi-product platform and servicing the entire clinic, not just the doctors," said Freiberg.

He said feedback from specialist clinics shaped the development of the reception product. "Central to our vision is developing systems that truly resonate with specialists who utilise it and feedback from our current client base led us to create Medow's AI Front Desk, as there was an urgent need for it."

Medow was founded in 2023 by two brothers who were motivated by watching their specialist father spend long hours preparing medical reports. That experience informed the company's initial focus on reducing administrative work for clinicians through automated documentation.

The company now serves specialist clinics in Australia and New Zealand, giving it a footprint across private specialist care settings in the region. Its expansion into front-desk operations suggests an effort to embed its software across more of a clinic's daily workflow.

Freiberg framed that strategy around specialist users rather than general practice or hospital systems. "Medow Health AI embodies a philosophy of 'made by specialists for specialists,' underpinning the dedication to reshaping the healthcare experience through innovation," he said.
