Fri, 28th Mar 2025

Six Monash University students, forming the team Street Corn, have won the UNIHACK 2025 with their project, Growth Garden.

The hackathon drew participation from 750 students across various institutions. Over 48 hours, they collaboratively worked on 135 projects, showcasing student-driven technological advancements.

Terence Huynh, Founder of UNIHACK, articulated his views on the hackathon's impact: "UNIHACK continues to be a launchpad for the next generation of technology leaders."

He also praised the creativity and technical expertise showcased by participants: "Every year, we are amazed by the depth of creativity and technical expertise demonstrated by our students. Growth Garden stood out for its thoughtful design and meaningful purpose, delivering a fun and engaging experience while seamlessly integrating innovative ideas to support user growth and habit-building."

Growth Garden, the winning project, is an AI-powered web application that aids users in cultivating positive habits and managing personal development. The application has a built-in AI assistant named Bruce, who crafts personalised routines for users based on their individual goals.

As part of its functionality, Growth Garden presents a virtual garden that evolves with the completion of various tasks, offering users a visual and emotionally satisfying indicator of their progress. The creation aims to address challenges posed by addictive technology and digital clutter by fostering positive routines.

In addition to the first-place honour, several other teams received accolades in different categories. Shuffl and Weave secured second and third place, respectively. Cryptarity took home the Social Impact Prize from Atlassian and the Best Design award. CollabAI was recognised for the Best Use of Datastax API. Crevo won the First Timers' Prize, while Eepy delivered the Most Entertaining Pitch. The People's Choice Award went to ShelfAware, and the Most Creative Idea was awarded to EYEVISION.

Winners at UNIHACK 2025 are rewarded with cash prizes and a complete set of Logitech MX gear for each team member. The event, supported by sponsors including Logitech in a platinum capacity, Atlassian in gold, and Datastax in silver, offers a valuable platform for networking with key industry players.
