Myriota expands in EMEA region, appoints ex-AccelerComm's Robert Barnes as VP
Tue, 27th Feb 2024

Australian satellite IoT company Myriota has announced its plans to expand in the EMEA region following successful growth in APAC, North and Latin America. The company has appointed Robert Barnes, formerly of AccelerComm and ARM, as its VP EMEA.

Myriota is a pioneer in direct-to-satellite IoT and has been recognised as one of the fastest-growing providers in the NewSpace market. The company's technological breakthrough came with the world-first transmission of IoT data directly to a nanosatellite. Moreover, Myriota's solutions, known for their reliability and long-lasting battery life, offer significantly lower carbon emissions and considerably lower total cost of ownership compared to other monitoring alternatives.

Among the clients relying on Myriota's low-power industrial IoT solutions are Grundfos, the world's largest pump manufacturer based in Denmark, and the Australian Department of Defence. Myriota's technology enables these users to optimise operations over extensive distances, reduce energy consumption, and maximise sustainability.

Tom Drew, Global Business Development Manager, Solar, Grundfos commented on the partnership with Myriota: "Their technology not only aligns with Grundfos's commitment to innovation and sustainability but also sets a new standard in energy efficiency and operational longevity. The Grundfos and Myriota partnership has enabled us to bring a unique solution to market, allowing customers to monitor their complete water asset. Our ambition is to continue to bring these benefits to our customers on a global scale."

The latest expansion move into EMEA comes amidst a growing demand and significant investment in a number of markets, such as Africa. In Africa, the IoT market is predicted to be worth AUD $239 billion by 2028, spurred by the need for digitisation in sectors like agriculture, transportation and the environment. The latest advances in Myriota's technology, such as remote sensing and tracking capabilities, are being utilised by various industries worldwide.

Newly appointed VP EMEA Robert Barnes will report to Myriota’s Chief Commercial Officer Mike Kerrigan, overseeing the region's sales, marketing, and customer success. Speaking on his appointment, Robert Barnes said: "It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the business, satellite-based IoT solutions will play a key role in achieving a more sustainable future."

"I can not wait to help customers in EMEA take advantage of Myriota’s unrivalled patented technology. Our technology addresses the communication challenges of power, performance, and spectrum limitations. Simply put, it just works," said Robert Barnes.

Mike Kerrigan, CCO at Myriota, added: "We have redefined space-based communications to deliver simple IoT solutions across the world. There is nobody better to spearhead our EMEA growth than Robert. He brings the perfect blend of product strategy, technological knowledge, and customer empathy to map Myriota's capabilities to business needs."

Myriota is scheduled to participate in the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2024 later in February.
