Nearmap reveals Gen 6 AI with 130 enhanced detections

Today

Nearmap has unveiled Generation 6 (Gen 6) of its AI model, providing businesses with over 130 location-based detections and scores to aid decision-making.

Gen 6 has been trained on millions of images from across Australia, the United States, Canada, and New Zealand, incorporating 50 new AI detections. This iteration benefits from 227 years of human expert labelling, allowing for enhanced assessment accuracy.

The model offers improved analysis in areas such as roof materials, yard objects, and pavement conditions. These enhancements, developed through extensive AI research, are bolstered by Nearmap's recent acquisition of Betterview.

Dr Michael Bewley, Vice President of AI and Computer Vision at Nearmap, said, "The journey to produce the Gen 6 AI system pushed us, our systems, and our ability to detect objects in aerial imagery beyond what we previously thought possible."

"Achieving such substantial performance benefits compared to previous efforts by both Nearmap and Betterview lays the foundation for years of future innovation and allows us to continually provide valuable and accurate insights to our customers."

Gen 6 aims to provide robust support across various sectors, including insurance, commercial, and governmental agencies, with applications tailored to industry-specific challenges.

Gen 6 facilitates risk assessment improvement via the Betterview platform in the insurance sector by offering detailed insights concerning roof conditions, materials, and other property metrics. This expanded detection capability allows insurers to manage and mitigate risks more effectively.

The model's enhanced accuracy and high confidence levels in detection further support insurers in assessing potential property risks. It also includes peril scores for natural disasters such as bushfires, cyclones, hail, and wind, contributing to better predictive claims assessments.

Commercial users benefit from Gen 6's capacity to automate project insights and operational efficiencies by enabling remote monitoring and management of infrastructure, vegetation growth, and urban planning.

For government users, Gen 6 aids in optimising resource allocation, property safety assessments, and urban planning through advanced imagery and geospatial information systems (GIS) tools.

Nearmap's Generation 6 AI model significantly advances location-based intelligence, offering businesses a powerful tool for informed decision-making. By leveraging extensive historical data and advanced AI techniques, Gen 6 enhances the precision of location assessments across various sectors, from insurance to urban planning.

Incorporating detailed detection capabilities and risk assessment features enables users to address specific challenges more effectively, ultimately supporting more efficient operations and improved outcomes. As industries continue to seek innovative solutions to manage risks and streamline processes, Nearmap's Gen 6 stands out as a valuable resource for driving strategic initiatives and enhancing operational effectiveness.
