New podcast on alternative fuel for fleet sustainability

Thu, 16th May 2024

Teletrac Navman, the renowned connected mobility platform, has initiated a new podcast series titled 'Mobilising The Future of Fleets'. This series aims to enlighten fleets transitioning to alternative fuel types and is constructed with the insight of industry experts. The key objective of the series is to support fleets moving towards a sustainable future by providing insights into the transition to energy alternatives such as electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen and biofuels.

The series comes at a crucial juncture as a telematics survey by Teletrac Navman revealed that only 11% of fleets are well on their way in the transition process. Additionally, 65% of fleets felt the environmental compulsion to shift to renewable energy. The podcast aims to bring clarity to these pressing issues faced by the transport industry, by leveraging a wealth of industry and academic experience.

The inaugural episode focuses on discussing the diverse energy types and their distinct applications. This includes explaining the energy choices for a mixed-energy fleet, the motivations for and against the change, and what the options could potentially resemble in the next five years due to technological evolution.

Each episode's pivotal discussion concerns 'net-zero' transition's financial impact, estimated to require a minimum of $5 trillion per annum. The series foresees intense debates and discussion regarding mixed energy fleets prospects such as EV, hydrogen, compressed natural gas/ renewable natural gas, and biofuels. It will also address the future of alternative energy technology, infrastructure, and the behavioural alteration impact on mixed energy future's success.

To elevate the narrative's relevance and veracity, Teletrac Navman has partnered with Professor Colin Herron CBE for the initial five episodes. Professor Herron, an acclaimed academic and advisor to the UK government, had a significant role in introducing the world's first mass-market electric vehicle, Nissan's Leaf. He also lectures and advises on EV infrastructure globally.

The podcast's host will be Barney Goffer. Product Manager for Fleet Energy Solutions at Teletrac Navman, will be accompanied by industry veterans such as Nate Valaik, Director of Strategy - Alternative Energy & Sustainability Fleets at Teletrac Navman's parent company, Vontier, and Peter Crowe, European Sales Manager at ANGI Energy Systems.

Commenting on this collaborative effort, Nate Valaik mentioned," alongside our colleagues at Teletrac Navman and ANGI, we felt strongly that it was time to combine industry and academic insight to support fleets globally. The truth is that reaching the end goal of net-zero will be a journey that includes multiple fuel types and a dynamic infrastructure, and fleets need to perceive the big picture of what that might look like." He also expressed privilege in collaborating with noted academician Professor Herron.

Adding his thoughts, Professor Colin Herron said, "My main priority is ensuring there is clarity in the market. I'm pleased to be working with Teletrac Navman on this project, a business which is placing great importance on sustainable futures and a sustainable transition to EV."
