Orro has partnered with Megaport to launch a managed service for international private networking and compute, available across more than 1,100 data centres in 30 countries.

The service gives Orro customers access to private, on-demand connectivity and dedicated compute infrastructure through a single managed provider. Deployment is measured in minutes rather than the months often associated with traditional telecoms procurement.

The partnership marks a push by the Australian technology provider to broaden its reach for domestic businesses operating overseas, while tapping demand for networking services bought and scaled more like cloud infrastructure.

International connectivity has long been dominated by large telecoms contracts that can take months to arrange and often lock customers into fixed terms. Orro and Megaport are positioning the new service as an alternative for companies seeking private links between sites, cloud environments and overseas operations without relying on separate providers in each market.

Under the arrangement, Megaport provides access to its global network footprint, while Orro packages, delivers and manages the service. Businesses can buy network and compute services through one supplier rather than piecing together regional contracts across multiple jurisdictions.

Orro chief executive officer Daniel Greengarten said the offer is aimed at companies facing growing demands as they expand beyond Australia.

Shift in buying

The launch reflects a broader change in how companies buy network infrastructure. Instead of committing to long procurement cycles and fixed capacity, many enterprises want services that can be switched on quickly, adjusted as demand changes and managed alongside cloud estates.

That trend has helped drive interest in network-as-a-service models, particularly among businesses with distributed workforces, overseas suppliers or operations in multiple markets. Private connectivity remains important for organisations with security, compliance or performance requirements that make public internet links less suitable for some workloads.

For Orro, adding international compute to the managed service expands the offering beyond connectivity alone. Customers can use the company for both network links and dedicated infrastructure in overseas locations, a combination that may appeal to organisations looking to simplify supplier management as they enter new regions.

Megaport, which runs a software-defined network platform connecting data centres, cloud services and enterprise sites, gains a channel into Orro's Australian customer base. The partnership also gives Megaport a managed services layer from a local provider with Australian support and round-the-clock operations.

Megaport executive vice president of global innovation Michael van Rooyen said the aim is to remove the friction often involved in setting up cross-border connectivity.

"The whole premise of Megaport is that global connectivity shouldn't require months of procurement and a different vendor in every country. Through our partnership with Orro, Australian businesses now have access to that capability through a managed services wrapper they already know and trust. Orro's depth in security and managed infrastructure, combined with Megaport's global network, means customers can expand internationally with ease. Competitive pressure

The move adds to competitive pressure on traditional telecoms operators, which have historically supplied international enterprise connectivity through long-term managed network contracts. Software-based platforms such as Megaport have been reshaping that market by allowing customers to provision links more directly and on shorter timeframes.

Australian businesses expanding abroad have often had to balance the reach of global carriers against the familiarity of local technology partners. Orro is seeking to bridge that gap by offering a single point of accountability from Australia while relying on Megaport's international footprint to provide overseas reach.

The service is available now to existing and new customers through Orro's managed services model, with Australian-based escalation and 24/7 global operations.

The partnership also sits within Orro's broader strategy around its Securely Connected Everything platform, which it describes as a framework for connecting, managing and securing customer technology environments across networks, cloud and infrastructure.

For customers, the immediate appeal is likely to be speed and procurement simplicity: one managed provider, a broad international footprint, and the ability to bring up private connectivity and compute without waiting for conventional carrier lead times.
