Recorded Future unveils AI tools to combat ransomware

Tue, 15th Oct 2024

Recorded Future has announced the launch of new AI-driven capabilities designed to provide real-time intelligence in combating ransomware threats.

The complexities of ransomware attacks pose significant challenges for organisations, which has prompted Recorded Future to develop enhanced features to improve the visibility and early detection of such threats. These new capabilities offer real-time insights into the operations of ransomware groups and their targeted victims, thereby extending the capabilities of existing security teams.

Through these offerings, organisations can now access automated and customised ransomware intelligence. This includes AI-driven reporting that delivers actionable insights tailored to specific organisational needs. The enhanced features aim to provide security teams with the necessary tools to identify vulnerabilities and prioritise actions before threats escalate.

The recent rise in ransomware attacks, which increased by over 70% in 2023, underscores the urgency for better protective measures. The company's enhanced capabilities provide more comprehensive protection by addressing gaps where traditional tools such as EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) and MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) may fall short.

The new feature set developed by Recorded Future includes customised ransomware risk profiles, which offer an extensive view of potential risks an organisation may face. There are also victimology and actor insights, offering real-time data about the activities of ransomware groups and their targeted sectors. Furthermore, AI-generated reports are designed to enhance decision-making processes by reducing manual efforts.

Jeremy Miller, Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst at Nelnet, shared his perspective on the advancements, stating, "Recorded Future's AI-powered Intelligence Cloud allows us to take a proactive stance to combating ransomware actors. With Recorded Future's Threat Intelligence module, we will be able to produce reports using AI Reporting with actionable insights on the highest priority threats to inform stakeholders across the organisation. This will help us know how to best protect our organisation, and increase our resilience."

In addressing the need for greater visibility across the entire ransomware lifecycle, Dr Christopher Ahlberg, Co-founder and CEO of Recorded Future, remarked, "While proactive defense and resilience to ransomware attacks are achievable with the right intelligence, an AI-driven approach puts security teams ahead of their adversaries' next move. We've looked at the ransomware lifecycle and applied Recorded Future AI, combined with our threat intelligence and client telemetry, to create a single source of truth, defeating ransomware early for each one of our clients."

Ransomware threats continue to challenge organisations financially and operationally globally. By introducing these pioneering capabilities, Recorded Future aims to enhance overall organisational resilience and mitigate any adverse effects resulting from ransomware attacks.
