Red Hat OpenStack platform adopted by Fujitsu
Thu, 12th Jul 2018
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Red Hat recently announced that Fujitsu has adopted Red Hat OpenStack Platform as an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) component of Fujitsu Cloud Service for OSS, its global hybrid cloud service offering.

As a backbone for an open hybrid cloud, Fujitsu Cloud Service for OSS is designed to help enterprises more quickly develop cloud-native and traditional applications and services in an environment built from innovative, more reliable, and more secure open technologies.

This announcement shows the continued, long-standing collaboration between Red Hat and Fujitsu to offer hybrid cloud solutions based on open source.

The collaboration started in 2003 with Fujitsu serving as one of the earliest Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to embrace Red Hat Enterprise Linux and expanded over the years to include Red Hat JBoss Middleware and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform to help drive the adoption of DevOps and cloud-native applications and Red Hat OpenStack Platform for private and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Fujitsu added Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform to service menu of Fujitsu Cloud Service for OSS and became the first Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider to offer the Advanced Mission-Critical Add-on for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, a long-life cycle support model for production environments running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

In May, Fujitsu began offering solutions based on Red Hat OpenStack Platform to help customers build private cloud environments.

With the announcement that it is now adopting Red Hat OpenStack Platform for Fujitsu Cloud Service for OSS, Fujitsu now aims to provide new higher value-added IaaS services for customers while reducing total operating costs by migrating its in-house developed OpenStack-based cloud to Red Hat OpenStack Platform.

Fujitsu decided to migrate to Red Hat OpenStack Platform because of its reputation for innovation, global and award-winning customer support, and Red Hat's achievements for open source software in the enterprise market.

Based on the community OpenStack project, Red Hat OpenStack Platform is designed to provide a framework for hybrid and private cloud platforms that pairs open innovation and agility with the stability, availability, and enhanced security frequently required for production environments.

Red Hat recently announced the latest version of Red Hat OpenStack Platform, which helps to reduce the complexity of cloud management through containerizing OpenStack services, including networking and storage, while increasing flexibility for upgrades, rollbacks, and service management.

Fujitsu  SVP Masahiro Ohta says, “By adopting Red Hat OpenStack Platform for Fujitsu Cloud Service for OSS, we are now further able to provide customers with a cloud environment based on more secure, reliable, and innovative technologies while helping to reduce total operating costs.

“We strongly support customer's migration of their mission-critical system to the cloud."
