Robert Whittaker named brand ambassador for Zeekr electric cars

Tue, 22nd Jul 2025

Professional MMA fighter and former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker has become the newest Australian brand ambassador for electric vehicle manufacturer Zeekr.

Zeekr currently offers two models in Australia, the Zeekr X and the Zeekr 009, with a third model, the Zeekr 7X, set to arrive soon. Having sold more than 510,000 vehicles worldwide, Zeekr is focused on expanding its presence in the Australian electric mobility market.

Partnership details

Whittaker, known for his precision and strength inside the arena, has aligned with Zeekr by highlighting the compatibility of the Zeekr 009 with his lifestyle as a father of five and professional athlete.

"What drew me to the Zeekr brand and its 009 people mover wasn't just the performance, it was how it fits into my life. With five kids and a packed schedule, I need something that's at the forefront of design, technology and performance and importantly, is rewarding to drive. Zeekr delivers on all fronts," Whittaker said.

The Zeekr 009 offers a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds and a driving range of up to 686 km (WLTP standard). The interior features heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a 3,000W audio system, aimed at providing a comfortable environment for all occupants.

On the comfort of the vehicle, Whittaker commented:

"It's like a rolling day spa on wheels for my wife and I, and a cinema for the kids," Whittaker said.

Comfort and family

The former champion credits his choice of vehicle to the necessity of fitting the demands of his family and training schedule, including the need for relaxation after intensive sessions.

"After a tough session, I just want to relax – and the 009 makes that easy. The seats, the quiet cabin, the tech; it's like stepping into a different world. It helps me reset, whether I'm heading home or off to the next challenge. With seating for up to six and a cabin designed for total comfort, the 009 is a mobile sanctuary my family and I absolutely love," Whittaker said.

Zeekr's 009 model is designed for those seeking higher standards in mobility, with a dual-motor powertrain that delivers significant torque. The vehicle's quiet interior is intended to complement a focused and calm driving experience.

Company perspectives

William Zhou, General Manager of Zeekr Australia, explained the rationale behind choosing Whittaker as brand ambassador, linking Whittaker's values with the company's approach to electric vehicles.

"Robert embodies the balance of strength and composure that defines the Zeekr brand. He's a world-class athlete, a dedicated family man, and someone who values quality in every part of his life. That's exactly who the 009 is built for," William Zhou, General Manager, Zeekr Australia.

Zhou added his perspective on the positioning of Zeekr's latest products in the local market.

"At Zeekr, we're not just building electric vehicles - we're creating experiences that elevate everyday life. The 009 is a statement in design, comfort, and innovation. We're excited for Australians to discover what's possible when luxury meets electric mobility," Zhou said.

Market presence and model range

Zeekr entered the Australian market in August 2024 and currently operates through 11 dealerships nationwide. The Zeekr X and 009 are the models available for purchase, while the Zeekr 7X will be introduced later this year, incorporating what the company describes as the world's first Golden Battery.

Globally, Zeekr operates research and development centres in locations such as Ningbo, Hangzhou, Gothenburg, and Shanghai. The company states that its teams collaborate internationally on vehicle architecture, powertrains, and advanced driver assistance systems. The Zeekr Global Design team works out of Gothenburg and Shanghai, focusing on all aspects of vehicle design and human-machine interface.

Since October 2021, Zeekr has delivered over 510,000 vehicles worldwide and has announced further plans to expand into international markets, with a focus on satisfying growing electric vehicle demand over the next five years.
