FYI, this story is more than a year old

Bigblu Broadband, the UK publicly listed owner of Australia's largest satellite provider, SkyMesh, has appointed telco industry entrepreneur Paul Torrisi as a Non-Executive Director of its Australasian operations.

Torrisi has served as CEO, Group CEO and Director of telecommunications companies and recently built the largest private fixed wireless telecommunications company in Australia.

He has worked across the private sector and publicly listed companies and has a very strong background in building companies that are high-growth and high-return. Torrisi is enthusiastic about where the industry is heading and the speed that alternatives to fixed-line broadband are emerging. His experience in emerging technologies and improving outcomes for those, especially in regional and remote areas, will help SkyMesh be at the forefront of an exciting time in the industry.

Having experienced enormous growth in recent years, the business has desires to continue its expansion through new technologies, product streams and acquisitions, as well as development of its burgeoning business in New Zealand.

"We're extremely pleased to have Paul join us. On top of our continued organic growth, we have a desire to grow by acquisition and expansion into new product areas, Paul's depth of experience in M&A and differing technologies is highly valuable in the next phase of the business." says Andrew Walwyn, Group CEO, Bigblu.

"Paul is a great addition and brings energy and focus to growth strategies which complement and diversify the business," said Stephen O'Shanassy, Managing Director, SkyMesh.

"SkyMesh is a great brand, and I'm looking forward to working with the team to build upon that with new products and acquiring and integrating new businesses. We are developing strategies to expand with 4G/5G services, LEO offerings and other terrestrial products," Torrisi says.

"The potential to complement the existing business, which has very slick systems and back of house functions, with new products and emerging technologies is massive. I'm thrilled to be a part of it."

Bigblu Broadband acquired SkyMesh in 2016 and has grown the business to the position of market leader in the Australian retail satellite and fixed wireless sector. SkyMesh is headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland and uniquely supports more than 50,000 customers Australia-wide from its 60-strong call centre and network operations centre in Brisbane.
