Solera & Digidentity launch streamlined MVIS compliance tool

Wed, 22nd Oct 2025

Solera Autodata and Digidentity are set to introduce an end-to-end solution for Motor Vehicle Information Sharing (MVIS) compliance, targeting independent workshops in Australia.

The new solution, arriving in November 2025, provides independent workshops with a streamlined way to access technical data for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) while meeting regulatory requirements. Under MVIS, car manufacturers must give independent workshops access to technical repair information, but only technicians who hold the appropriate qualifications are permitted to view safety-critical data.

Compliance in practice

Solera Autodata and Digidentity's integrated approach makes compliance more manageable through the combination of the Autodata Workshop Application and the Digidentity Wallet app. The process requires garage owners to register their business and invite their technicians to verify their identities and qualifications digitally. Once verified, these technicians are granted access to restricted technical content, supporting safety standards in the workplace.

"MVIS is about access to data but also about safety-critical data being accessed in a controlled manner," said Chris Iacovou, Managing Director APAC at Solera Autodata. "Our partnership with Digidentity ensures this is done efficiently."

The solution's design supports the requirements of MVIS by validating that only those technicians who have proved their credentials can work with material considered safety-critical, an area of growing focus in line with the rise of advanced vehicle technologies.

Workshops and customer trust

Digidentity's Managing Director, Fred Slikker, explained that the streamlined verification system not only meets compliance standards but also encourages consumer confidence in independent workshops.

"We're providing workshops a fast way to prove technicians are qualified for advanced systems. It's about increased safety standards and trust."

The solution also emphasises the importance of building customer trust through controlled access to repair data for electric vehicles and hybrids, a factor that is particularly important as these vehicle types become more prevalent in both Australia and New Zealand. This control aims to reduce operational risks for repairers and reassure customers regarding who is handling their vehicles.

The partnership will extend the availability of the solution to New Zealand, reflecting its applicability in markets facing similar regulatory landscapes and shifts towards EV adoption.

Industry standards

From a wider industry perspective, the partnership between Solera Autodata and Digidentity ties regulatory compliance to operational efficiency for workshops facing expanding technical data requirements. Salim Arkadan, Director, Product Management at Solera Autodata, noted the wider implications of the offering.

"Autodata's partnership with Digidentity sets a new standard for compliant, easy access to EV data," said Salim Arkadan, Director, Product Management at Solera Autodata.

The move is likely to be welcomed by the independent repair sector, which must stay up-to-date with changes in regulation and technology, especially as car manufacturers and regulatory bodies require increased documentation and validation around safety-critical procedures.

Looking ahead

Independent repairers across Australia will be able to access the end-to-end MVIS-compliant solution from November 2025, with New Zealand availability also planned. Both Solera Autodata and Digidentity expect that this new system will help workshops manage regulatory obligations more efficiently, while bolstering trust and safety for those servicing hybrid and electric vehicles.
