Solstice Energy expands into electricity market with Gentrack

Tue, 10th Sep 2024

Solstice Energy, formerly known as Tas Gas Retail, has announced its expansion into the electricity market in association with Gentrack, a company providing next generation solutions for utilities. This move signifies a substantial development for Solstice Energy as it seeks to offer comprehensive energy solutions.

For over two decades, Solstice Energy has served Tasmania's gas infrastructure and retail sectors. The company now aims to embark on the electrification journey, driven by customer research indicating a demand for sustainable and competitive energy options in the region. By June 2024, Solstice Energy had introduced its electricity services alongside its gas offerings, targeting the acquisition of 3,000 new electricity customers within the initial three months.

The company is dedicated to being a holistic energy provider, ensuring customers can access both gas and electricity. It also plans to foster connections between energy producers and consumers, particularly focusing on renewable sources. Solstice Energy's commitment is evident in its strategies to stay abreast of the evolving energy landscape.

Marking this expansion, Solstice Energy continues its 19-year collaboration with Gentrack. Gentrack's technology underpins Solstice Energy’s operations, offering a stable billing system and a consolidated source of customer data. This technological support has enabled Solstice Energy to innovate and meet market demands efficiently.

The rebranding to Solstice Energy aligns with this strategic expansion. The rebranding effort encompasses a new brand identity and includes a wide array of updated communication materials. A comprehensive marketing campaign has been launched, incorporating various media channels to engage with customers and emphasise the company's commitment to Tasmanian values.

Sarah Thurstans, General Manager Retail at Solstice Energy, stated, "The energy market is undergoing significant national and international change, and Solstice Energy is changing with that to become a diversified energy business. Our commitment to Tasmania is part of our DNA. And now, by offering both electricity and gas, we're able to meet all of our customers' energy needs. Our 19-year partnership with Gentrack has been crucial in enhancing our customer relationships. As the primary interface for our customers, the billing system plays a key part in building their confidence in our company. Gentrack's ongoing innovation and support ensure that we provide a reliable and efficient service, reinforcing trust in our systems and service."

Gentrack's General Manager in Australia, Mark Humphreys, commented on the rebranding and expansion: "This rebrand marks a bold move for Solstice Energy as it enters the electricity market, becoming a true challenger in the Tasmanian energy sector. Launching a new energy brand is a big undertaking. By delivering our Out-of-the-Box customer and billing platforms ready for launch, it means Solstice Energy can focus their full attention on delighting their customers. I think that’s an important role for us to play. We look forward to helping Solstice make the home energy experience more human and more enjoyable with their unique Tasmanian spirit."

Solstice Energy's parent company, Solstice Energy Holdings, operates various subsidiaries including Tas Gas Networks, Gas Pipeline Victoria, and others. The broader company framework supports a vision towards a cleaner energy future, exploring potential in hydrogen and biomethane energy solutions. The company professes a commitment to maintaining reliable energy services and contributing towards sustainable development.
