Sony unveils world's lightest 300mm telephoto prime lens for 2024 release

Sony has announced the release of the world's lightest 300 mm telephoto prime lens, G Master FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS, a 35 mm full-frame E-mount lens, ready for the global market in late January 2024. The cutting-edge lens is packed with features such as maximum aperture of F2.8 and has been embraced for its lightweight design of approximately 1470g, excluding the tripod mount. This lens has been designed for supreme detailing, a prevalent characteristic of the G Master, consolidated with high-speed, high-precision autofocus performance.

This revolutionary telephoto prime lens has been designed to capture sharp, dynamic, and decisive moments such as those witnessed in high-octane sports or agile animal activities with handheld shooting. Given its lightweight design and excellent weight balance, the new lens offers extended handheld shooting sessions without causing fatigue, reducing the load on photographers.

When paired with the Alpha 9 III, which is being released simultaneously, the G Master FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS enables high-speed continuous shooting with autofocus and AE tracking up to 120 frames per second. Further enhancing its versatility, this lens is compatible with an optional teleconverter, enabling shooting in the telephoto range of up to 600 mm or equivalent to 900 mm when used with an APS-C camera.
